Highest quercetin

Vegetable amaranth is a source of natural phytopigments and functional components of the commercial food industry for sustainable health benefits across the globe. It is guessed that recently identified amaranth (drought-tolerant) genotypes may contain ample phytopigments and phytochemicals suitable to extract juice as drinks.

The present study was conducted to characterize the polyphenolic contents of lettuce leaves grown under different night-time temperatures (4, 12, and 20 C) and cultivation durations (5, 15, and 20 days) using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). The assay method was validated based on specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and the performance limit. The total polyphenolic contents were highest (2462.6 mg/kg) after transplantation at a night temperature of 20 C on day 20 and lowest (1132.7 mg/kg) at the same temperature on day 5.

Helicteres hirsuta Lour., particularly its stems and leaves have been used in Vietnamese traditional medicine to cure furuncles, dysentery, measles and flu. In this study, we examined biological activities of 5 fractions from methanol extract of H. hirsuta roots. The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction has the highest content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds (220.9 ± 15.67 mg GAE, gallic acid equivalents/g dry weight and 23.03 ± 0.97 mg QE, quercetin equivalents/g dry weight, respectively).
