The leprosy-tuberculosis (TB) co-infection is rarely reported in recent times. However, this dual comorbidity is associated with high mortality and major morbidity. Unrecognised leprosy-TB co-infection may predispose afected patients to rifampicin monotherapy and subsequent drug resistance.

Cross-section and clinical record review study on 151 HIV-infected patients who were 18 years old or above on first-line antiretroviral therapy (1) for 18 to 36 months at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) in 2019. Participants are selected by convenient method. Research conducted face-to-face interviewing participants by structured questionnaire and collected data directly from each participant’s respective medical record, including duration of ART, number of T-CD4 at the beginning of ART, number of current T-CD4.

Thalassemia is one of commonest hereditary disease worldwide, prevalent in humid climates and affects all races. The Transfusion Dependent Thalassemias require regular blood transfusion to survive. The thalassemia patients require lifelong blood transfusion on regular basis- usually administered every 2 to 5 weeks. Due to regular blood transfusion, transfusion transmitted disease e.g. Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections can occur.

Sputum smear conversion is a key indicator of treatment response and reduced infectivity among bacteriologically confrmed pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) patients. This study aimed at estimating sputum smear conversion and identifying factors hindering sputum smear conversion among bacteriologically confrmed PTB cases in East Gojjam Zone, Northwest Ethiopia.

The impact of HIV infection on the evolution of acute community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is still controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate possible differences in the clinical presentation and in-hospital outcomes of patients with CAP with and without HIV infection in a specialised service in Yaounde.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an important comorbidity in patients living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Previous bacterial microbiome studies have shown increased abundance of specific bacterium, like Tropheryma whipplei, and no overall community differences.

The incidence of tuberculosis (TB) is high among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected Ugandans. Recent evidence suggests that Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis and Aspergillus sensitisation might be responsible for significant mortality in patients treated for tuberculosis in Uganda.

Tuberculosis and cryptococcosis co-infection usually occurs in immunosuppressed patients with impaired cell-mediated immunity. However, there are few reports about such co-infection in non-HIV patients without underlying diseases. Here, we report a case of miliary tuberculosis with co-existing pulmonary cryptococcosis in non-HIV patient without underlying diseases.

The inherent risk of developing tuberculosis (TB) in HIV- infected individuals is further enhanced by hypovitaminosis D. Interventions that offset HIV-associated immune deterioration potentially arrest disease progression and incidence of opportunistic infections including TB. Despite conflicting reports on association between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and risk of TB, vitamin D (VD) supplementation remains a promising intervention.

A Study on HIV/TB Co-infection in and Around Khammam, Telangana Tuberculosis is the most common opportunistic infection and the major cause of death in HIV positive patients. In India, the incidence of TB is about 40% in general population and about 25- 30% extra cases are due to HIV infection. To study the demographical and clinical factors associated among HIV/TB co-infected patients in and around Khammam. A crosssectional study was conducted among 107 HIV/TB co-infected patients attending ICTC centre in the district hospital Khammam from July-November 2016.

Metabolic disorders presenting in HIV-infected patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) may increase the risk of osteoarthritis. However, structural changes of the knee in HIV infected subjects are understudied. The aim of this study is to investigate knee cartilage degeneration and knee structural changes over 8 years in subjects with and without HIV infection determined based on the use of ART.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD), caused by Treponema pallidum. It not only has significant implications on public health but also facilitates the acquisition of other STDs such as HIV infection as well as complicates pregnancy related outcomes. Maternal syphilis is associated with stillbirths and spontaneous abortions in number of cases. Diagnosis of syphilis is dependent on antibody detection by non treponemal/ cardiolipin (screening test) and treponemal tests (confirmatory tests).

Screening for osteoporosis with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is recommended for male HIV-infected patients only above the age of 50. Recently, trabecular bone score (TBS) has been introduced as a novel tool to assess bone microarchitecture using DXA of the lumbar spine. Few studies have reported TBS values in HIV-infected individuals younger than 50 years of age.

Opportunistic infections are one of the major concerns in patients suffering from AIDS. If proper care is not taken, diagnosis of such infections is often missed which adds to increased morbidity of such patients. This case report highlights the importance of simple diagnostic methods in diagnosis of Pneumocystis jiroveci infection in children.

Data generated in ICTC may provide important clues to study the prevalence of HIV infection. Socio-demographic and epidemiological distribution of HIV seropositive patients can also be studied by analyzing these data. This study was planned to know the pattern of HIV infection in ICTC center of a tertiary care teaching hospital.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has emerged as one of the most devastating human pandemics with significant morbidity and mortality. A plethora of physiological factors including haematological status, immunological response, renal and liver enzymes, sex hormones, vitamin and mineralogical status play significant role in determining the HIV infection progression and effect of anti-retro viral therapy (ART). The present study aims to investigate the overall physiological status in HIV infected individuals prior to ART.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is responsible for depletion of CD4 cell count. Thus resulting in the rise of opportunistic infections (OI) leading to increase in morbidity and mortality in HIV infected patients. The aim of the study was to observe the opportunistic infections and CD4 count in HIV/AIDS patients. The work was done in Microbiology, Al-Ameen Medical College Vijayapur, Karnataka from January 2012 – December 2012.
