We address the question of whether the Thom-Boardman symbol of a map germ is an invariant with respect to bi-Lipschitz right equivalence. We give a counterexample showing that in general the answer is negative. We prove that the rank of a map germ is a bi-Lipschitz contact invariant. Consequently, the first Thom-Boardman symbol and its length are bi-Lipschitz contact invariants.

The present paper develops a polynomial chaos expansion (PCE)-based surrogate model for characterizing the microstructure-properties relationships of acoustic monodisperse foams. First, the acoustic properties of the considered structures are estimated numerically by homogenization techniques using an idealized periodic unit cell and the Johnson-Champoux-Allard-Pride-Lafarge (JCAPL) model.

Two families of certain nonsymmetric generalized Jacobi polynomials with negative integer indexes are employed for solving third- and fifth-order two point boundary value problems governed by homogeneous and nonhomogeneous boundary conditions using a dual Petrov–Galerkin method. The idea behind our method is to use trial functions satisfying the underlying boundary conditions of the differential equations and the test functions satisfying the dual boundary conditions.
