Human hepatoma HepG2 cells

It is generally accepted that the energy resources of cancer cells rely on anaerobic metabolism or the glycolytic system, even if they have sufficient oxygen. This is known as the Warburg effect. The cells skillfully survive under hypoglycemic conditions when their circumstances change, which probably at least partly involves microRNA (miRNA)-mediated regulation.

Evodiamine has gained wide interests recently because of its anti tumor activities. However, a superior bioavailability is required to achieve better efficacy due to its poor water solubility.

Cadmium (Cd) is a well known environmental and industrial toxicant causing damaging effects in numerous organs. In this study, we examined the role of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in modulating the Cd-induced apoptosis in human hepatoma (HepG2) cells after 24 h exposure.

We succeeded in large volume artificial cultivation of Onygena corvina. The appearance (shape, color, and size) of fruiting bodies of cultured bacteria was almost the same as that of wild one. We screened their metabolites for antiproliferative activities against nine human cancer cells in vitro. Culture filtrates (metabolite-containing media) of O. corvina were lyophilized and resuspended in phosphate buffer to investigate them in vitro. As a result, these metabolites effectively inhibited the growth of some cancer cells in a concentration-dependent manner.

Iron overload in the liver may occur in clinical conditions such as hemo-chromatosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, and may lead to the deterior-ation of the normal liver architecture by mechanisms not well understood. Although a relationship between the expression of ICAM-1, and classical major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules, and iron over-load has been reported, no relationship has been identified between iron overload and the expression of unconventional MHC class I molecules....

In previous studies, we have demonstrated that RhoA⁄B-dependent signal-ing regulates TGFb-induced rapid actin reorganization in Swiss 3T3 fibro-blasts. Here we report that TGFbregulates long-term actin remodeling by increasing the steady-state mRNA levels of the RhoBgene in mouse Swiss 3T3 fibroblasts and human hepatoma HepG2 cells.

Circulating tumour necrosis factor-a(TNFa) levels, which are elevated in obesity-associated insulin resistance and diabetes, inhibit insulin signalling at several points in the signalling cascade. The liver is critical in maintaining cir-culating glucose levels and, in a preliminary investigation using the human hepatoma (HepG2) cell line in this study, we demonstrated the role of TNFa in the regulation of this phenomenon and determined the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Hepatic apoptosis is elevated in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and is correlated with the severity of the disease. Long-chain saturated fatty acids, such as palmitate, induce apoptosis in liver cells. The present study examined adiponectin-mediated protection against saturated fatty acid-induced apoptosis in the human hepatoma cell line, HepG2.

Protein Kinase C (PKC) is a serine/threonine kinase that involved in controlling of many cellular processes such as cell proliferation and differentiation. We have observed previously that TPA (12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13acetate) induces cell cycle arrest in G0/G1 phase in human hepatoma HepG2 cells. However, is there any miRNA involved in PKCα mediated cell growth arrest is still unknown. Methods: We first surveyed 270 miRNA expression profiles in 20 pairs of human hepatoma tissues.
