The study compares common denaturing agent combinations used in N-glycan release methods. In the study, human plasma was used to test the release methods of N-glycans containing different detergent combinations. The released N-glycans were labeled with the procainamide tag, purified using cellulose-containing solid-phase extraction cartridges, and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography equipped with fluorescence detection (HPLC-HILIC-FLD).

Computer-aided method-development programs require accurate models to describe retention and to make predictions based on a limited number of scouting gradients. The performance of five different retention models for hydrophilic-interaction chromatography (HILIC) is assessed for a wide range of analytes.

Fatty acyl-Coenzyme A species (acyl-CoAs) are key biomarkers in studies focusing on cellular energy metabolism. Existing analytical approaches are unable to simultaneously detect the full range of short- , medium-, and long-chain acyl-CoAs, while chromatographic limitations encountered in the analysis of limited amounts of biological samples are an often overlooked problem.

In environmental risk assessment, it is essential to understand the relationship between molecular structure and fate and toxicity of organic contaminants. For surfactants, physico-chemical parameters which can reflect the interactions that determine surfactant behavior are not well defined and are therefore needed for the development of robust quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR).

Protein glycosylation is one of the most common and critical post-translational modification, which results from covalent attachment of carbohydrates to protein backbones. Glycosylation affects the physicochemical properties of proteins and potentially their function.

The applicability of models to describe peptide retention in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) was investigated. A tryptic digest of bovine-serum-albumin (BSA) was used as a test sample. Several different models were considered, including adsorption, mixed-mode, exponential, quadratic and Neue–Kuss models.

Quantitative analysis of glycans released from glycoproteins using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) requires fluorescent tag labeling to enhance sensitivity and selectivity. However, the methods required to remove large amounts of excess labeling reagents from the reaction mixture are timeconsuming.

Combined therapy for HIV treatment shows superior efficacy in comparison to single therapy. Furthermore, the separation and determination of the combined dosage forms hold a significant place in the pharmaceutical industry. Not only reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) but also hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) can be used for these purposes. Contrary to conventional RP systems, HILIC may be an alternative for the analysis of polar substances.

A platform based on hydrophilic interaction chromatography in combina-tion with Fourier transform mass spectrometry was developed in order to carry out metabonomics of Drosophila melanogasterstrains. The method was able to detect230 metabolites, mainly in the positive ion mode, after checking to eliminate false positives caused by isotope peaks, adducts and fragment ions.
