Hydroxyl radicals

In this study, photocatalysis was applied to degrade methyl orange (MO ) and methylene blue (MB) pollutants using nanoparticles (i.e., Fe2O3, Mn2O3, Fe2O3 – Mn2O3). During photodecomposition, formed intermediates due to the incomplete reaction of pollutions and hydroxyl radical were investigated using the ions trap technique.

In the presence of suitable inhibitors, the experimental results show that free radical
OH was generated in the H2O-Mn(II)-ethylenediamine-indigocarmine-H3BO3-H2O2 system. Hydroxyl radical
OH has hight oxidation capability and its reaction rate constant with a substrate as indigocarmine kOH+Ind was determined by using the concurent reactions. The calculations were done by method of least square after programming on PC and by graphic method.

The interaction of the homeodomain of the sunflower KNOX protein HAKN1 with DNA was studied by site-directed mutagenesis, hydroxyl radical footprinting and missing nucleoside experiments. Binding of HAKN1 to different oligonucleotides indicated that HAKN1 prefers the sequence TGACA (TGTCA), with changes within the GAC core more pro-foundly affecting the interaction. Footprinting and missing nucleoside experiments using hydroxyl radical cleavage of DNA showed that HAKN1 interacts with a 6-bp region of the strand carrying the GAC core, covering the core and nucleotides towards the 3¢ end....

Metformin (1,1-dimethylbiguanide) is an antihyperglycae-mic drug used to normalize glucose concentrations in type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, antioxidant benefits have been reported in diabetic patients treated with metformin. This work was aimed at studying the scavenging capacity of this drug against reactive oxygen species (ROS) like Æ OH and O Æ

Exposure to quartz particles induces a pathological process named silicosis. Alveolar macrophages initiate the disease through their activation, which is the origin of the later dysfunctions.
