Trade and world economic integration are seen as the impetus for accelerating the well-beings of the domestic Vietnamese communities and international community in the region. However, an understanding of the link between trade and economic integration from the perspective of Vietnam is missing. Genomic sequencing has identified three different typical plant aspartic proteinases in the genome ofArabidopsis thaliana, named Pasp-A1, A2 and A3. A1 is identical to a cDNA we had previously isolated and the two others pro-duceproteins 81and63%identical to that predictedprotein. Sequencing of the aspartic proteinase protein purified from Arabidopsisseeds showed that the peptides are derived from two of these genes, A1 and A2.

Novel antithrombin molecules were identified from the ixodidae tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis. These molecules, named madanin 1 and 2, are 7-kDa proteins and show no significant similarities to any previously identified proteins. Assays using human plasma showed that madanin 1 and 2 dose-dependently prolonged both activated partial throm-boplastin time and prothrombin time, indicating that they inhibit both the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways. A new component of theb-1,6-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.75) multienzymatic complex secreted by Trichoderma harzianumhas been identified and fully characterized. The protein, namely BGN16.3, is the third isozyme display-ing endo-b-1,6-glucanase activity described up to now in T. harzianum CECT 2413. BGN16.3 is an acidicb-1,6-glucanase that is specifically induced by the presence of fungal cell walls in T. harzianumgrowth media.

ATP-NAD kinase phosphorylates NAD to produce NADP by using ATP, whereas ATP-NADH kinase phosphorylates both NAD and NADH. Three NAD kinase homologues, namely, ATP-NAD kinase (Utr1p), ATP-NADH kinase (Pos5p) and function-unknown Yel041wp (Yef1p), are found in the yeastSaccharomyces cerevisiae. In this study, Yef1p was identified as an ATP-NADH kinase. The ATP-NADH kinase activity of Utr1p was also confirmed.

A naturally occurring variant of the human androgen receptor (AR) named AR45 has been identified. It lacks the entire region encoded by exon 1 of the ARgene and is composed of the AR DNA-binding domain, hinge region and ligand-binding domain, preceded by a novel seven amino-acid long N-terminal extension. A survey of human tissues revealed that AR45 was expressed mainly in heart and skeletal muscle. Three novel CXC chemokines were identified in common carp (Cyprinus carpioL.) through homology cloning.
