In this study, the synthesis of dimeric disulfide-Schiff bases was carried out using two methods. The structures of the obtained Schiff bases were elucidated by various spectroscopic methods as well as elemental analysis. The Schiff base derivative compounds (3a-6) were screened for in vitro antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant microorganisms using microdilution method. All the tested compounds showed varying inhibition zones against the pathogens.

In this study, a new formulation based on the combination of two active constituents (zinc pyrithione and triclosan) and an inactive component (carboxymethyl cellulose polymer) was optimized for seed coating to control seed-borne pathogens. According to the in vitro antimicrobial tests, the combination of zinc pyrithione and triclosan showed a broader spectrum of phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi control.

Successful treatment of skin infections requires eradication of biofilms found in up to 90 % of all chronic wounds, causing delayed healing and increased morbidity. We hypothesized that chitosan hydrogel boosts the activity of liposomally-associated membrane active antimicrobials (MAA) and could potentially improve bacterial and biofilm eradication.

Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) strains cause infectious diseases in poultry. Resveratrol is extracted from Polygonum cuspidatum, Cassia tora Linn and Vitis vinifera, and displays good antimicrobial activity. The present study aimed to investigate the antibiofilm effect of resveratrol on APEC in vitro.

The bactericidal activity of an antimicrobial drug is generally assessed by in vitro bacterial time-kill experiments which do not include any components of the immune system, even though the innate immunity, the primary host defence, is probably able to kill a large proportion of pathogenic bacteria in immunocompetent patients.

In this study we extracted bioactive ingredients from fruiting bodies of Laetiporus sulphureus with different solvents and tested the antimicrobial and antitumor activities. The predominant lipid composition of the fruiting bodies was studied with GC–MS and revealed a high amount of oleic acid, octadecenoic acid and ergosterol derivatives.

Synthesis and in vitro antimicrobial activities are reported for a series of 1,3,5-substituted 4-oxo-3,4-dihydro5H -pyridazino[4,5- b]indole derivatives. Corresponding pyridazino[4,5- b]indoles were prepared from ethyl 3-formyl-1H - indole-2-carboxylate precursors and the functional group in question was installed with hydrazine and its derivatives. The purity and primary structures of pyridazino[4,5- b]indole were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, and 13 C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses.

A new, less expensive, solvent-free procedure was developed for the synthesis of some new derivatives of various fused heterocyclic ring systems, namely azolopyridazine, azolotriazine, azinotriazine, thienopyridine, and pyrazolopyridine. The structures of the products prepared were established by their spectral data and elemental analyses. Eight compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity. Some of the tested compounds exhibited moderate to significant antibacterial and antifungal activities.

The new compounds 7a–k, 8a–k, and 9a–k were synthesized from flavonones 4–6, which can be considered new precursors for quinoline synthesis through a one-step reaction. All the target compounds (7a–k, 8a–k, and 9a–k) were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against nine test microorganisms. They showed the most activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 62.5–500 µg/mL, indicating their potential uses as antituberculosis agents. Among them 8a–k (m-fluoride) were the most active compounds against M. smegmatis (MIC, 62.5–125 µg/mL).

This in vitro study was aimed to assess the effects of Thymus vulgaris L. and Origanum vulgare L. essential oils (EOs) on cell viability and enzymatic antioxidative system in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeasts were cultivated with different concentrations of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) (0.05 – 1.00 µl/ml) and oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) (0.05 – 0.70 µl/ml) EOs for 24 hours. For the present study, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was used to quantify chemical composition of EOs. The main components of thyme essential oil were caryophyllene (7.94%), p-cymene (18.

The Cl replacement reactions of 4-fluorobenzyl(N/O)spirocyclotriphosphazene (2) with excess monoamines led to the formation of 4-fluorobenzylspiro(N/O)tetraaminocyclotriphosphazenes (2a–2d). The partly substituted dispiro 3b and dispiro 3c and fully substituted trispirocyclotriphosphazenes (trans 4a, cis 4c, 4d, and 4e) were obtained, respectively, from the reactions of 2 with one equimolar and two equimolar amounts of diamines, aminoalcohol, and diols.
