Fly ash is an active mineral admixture used commonly in the production of blended Portland cement. Fly ash improves many important properties of cement and cement concrete: increasing late compressive strength, increasing sulfate resistance, reducing heat of hydration, reducing alkali-silica reaction and reducing water permeability.

Nephrogenic ascites is described as a clinical condition of refractory ascites in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on renal replacement therapy. This entity was first described in 1970. Many nephrologists do not believe in nephrogenic ascites. The underlying etiologies can be multifactorial including a combination of poor nutrition, inadequate dialysis and ultrafiltration, increased peritoneal membrane permeability, and overall uremia.

We previously demonstrated that the pleural levels of proteins (neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin/NGAL, calprotectin, bactericidal permeability-increasing/BPI, azurocidin 1/AZU-1) were valuable markers for identifying complicated PPE (CPPE).

In this study, GGBFS at different cement replacement ratios of 0%, 20%, 40% and 60% by weight were used in finegrained concrete. The ternary binders containing GGBFS and FA at cement replacement ratio of 60% by weight have also evaluated. Flexural and compressive strength test, rapid chloride permeability test and under-water abrasion test were performed. Experimental results show that the increase in concrete strength with GGBFS contents from 20% to 40% but at a higher period of maturity (56 days and more).

We analyzed the changes in permeability of endothelial cell layers after photon irradiation, with a focus on the metalloproteases ADAM10 and ADAM17, and on VE-cadherin, components crucial for the integrity of endothelial intercellular junctions, and their roles in the transmigration of cancer cells through endothelial cell monolayers.

Reception of and response to exogenous and endogenous osmotic changes is important to sustain plant growth and development, as well as reproductive formation. Hyperosmolality-gated calcium-permeable channels (OSCA) were first characterised as an osmosensor in Arabidopsis and are involved in the perception of extracellular changes to trigger hyperosmolality-induced [Ca2+]i increases (OICI).

Expression of efflux pump activity in multidrug resistant (MDR) E. coli isolates by Cartwheel method
Bacteria resist antibiotic action through several mechanisms, including target al., teration, drug inactivation, decreased permeability, and increased efflux. The aim of the study is detection of EP mediated MDR phenotypes in E. coli by using EB agar Cartwheel method.

Therapeutic hypothermia is neuroprotective in asphyxiated neonates by counteracting mechanisms contributing to brain injury. Although an initial increased permeability is part of an inflammatory reaction and thereby a natural healing process, an excessive endothelial permeability with edema formation may result in impaired hemodynamics.

Dengue shock syndrome is a severe complication of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), characterized by a massive increase in vascular permeability. This prospective study was conducted to assess the pathophysiologic and prognostic role of proinflammatory and regulatory cytokines in the inpatient population tested positive for Dengue fever by using commercially prepared ELISA kits for IL-10. A total of 100 blood samples for this study were collected from pediatric patients and adult patients. The patients were tested for NS1 antigen of DENV and IgM antibodies against DENV.

Single spinel phases of Mn0.5Ni0.1Zn0.4NdxFe2xO4 ferrite samples (x = 0.0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.075, and 0.1) have been prepared by ceramic method and the composition dependence of the physical and magnetic properties has been investigated. SEM micrographs and EDX analysis revealed that there is no considerable effect for the Nd3+ ion substitution on the average grain size or porosity, whereas its concentration in the grain boundaries is higher than that in the grains. Saturation magnetization (MS) increased with the Nd3+ ion concentration (x) and reached a maximum value at x = 0.05.

In recent decades, unsustainable use of resources and the implementation of dams upstream accompanied with sea level rise acceleration has led to an extreme mangrove depletion, increase of coastal vulnerability in the Mekong delta. Extensive shrimp culture, where mangrove forest have been turned into aquaculture ponds are adding to the problem. The aim was to assess the current situation and find solutions which go in hand with the Building with Nature (BwN) concept for two selected locations along the Vinh Chau coast.

This paper discussed the flexural and the compressive strengths of polyacrylic ester (PAE) emulsion and silica fume (SF)-modified mortar. The chloride ion permeability in cement mortar and the interfacial microhardness between aggregates and matrix were measured. The chemical reactions between polymer and cement-hydrated product were investigated by the infrared spectral technology. The results show that the decrease of porosity and increase of density of cement mortars can be achieved by the pozzolanic effect of SF, the water-reducing and -filling effect of polymer.

The porosity and pore size distributions are pore structure parameters which have a direct effect on the permeability of cement paste as well as its durability. This paper is based on laboratory programs comparing the porosity, pore size distributions and water absorption with varying ageing processes of three commercial polymer-modified mortars (SBR, PAE and VAE) as well as unmodified conventional mortar mixes exposed to different curing conditions.

A technology that produces a gradient polymer distribution in polymer-modified mortar (PMM) was developed to minimize the polymer addition in PMM without losing the improved properties. The mortar was modified using a magnetic responsive polymer latex and was subjected to a magnetic field during moulding. Driven by magnetic force, the added polymer particles were enriched in the superficial region of the PMM, and a dense protective layer with much higher polymer content was generated in the hardened mortar, which increased the impermeability of the material.
