  • This paper discuss the impact of watershed interventions on bio-physical, hydrological, agricultural and socio-economic indicators. Changes were detected in land use for agriculture crops, water body coverage and area under very good soil moisture. Ground water table and crop productivity were improved. Migration of workers from rural to urban areas was declined.The mean gross income of households was increased. Overall, the watershed interventions provided resilience by ensuring sustainable multiple outputs, besides soil and water conservation.

  • This paper uses annual data for Taiwan from 1970 to 2003 to examine the factors affecting medical expenses. The results are as follows: (1) after the implementation of the National Health Insurance system, the average per capita health care spending increased significantly, by about 16%. (2) The income elasticity of health care spending is greater than 1, which means that it is a luxury good. This is in contrast with the findings of other Taiwanese studies, but supports the results in the foreign literature.

  • Previous studies have documented long run equilibrium relationships between either stock prices and labour income or dividends and consumption. In a general equilibrium stochastic growth model, these variables are related in the long run because they are all driven by the same stochastic trend - the fundamental development of productivity. We show that national stock price indices are cointegrated with domestic and foreign GDP in the G7 countries. Higher domestic productivity increase both domestic GDP and domestic stock prices.
