Economic development is a process whereby the real national income of a country increases over a long period of time. If the increase in real national income is greater than the increase in population growth, the real per capita income would increase. Thus the increase in real GNP is a representative of economic development. Now this has always been a matter of interest for the experts that how the GNP of a country would increase or what determines economic development and growth.

This paper uses annual data for Taiwan from 1970 to 2003 to examine the factors affecting medical expenses. The results are as follows: (1) after the implementation of the National Health Insurance system, the average per capita health care spending increased significantly, by about 16%. (2) The income elasticity of health care spending is greater than 1, which means that it is a luxury good. This is in contrast with the findings of other Taiwanese studies, but supports the results in the foreign literature.

Previous studies have documented long run equilibrium relationships between either stock prices and labour income or dividends and consumption. In a general equilibrium stochastic growth model, these variables are related in the long run because they are all driven by the same stochastic trend - the fundamental development of productivity. We show that national stock price indices are cointegrated with domestic and foreign GDP in the G7 countries. Higher domestic productivity increase both domestic GDP and domestic stock prices.

In developing countries like India agriculture contributes major share of national income. A huge amount of chemical fertilizers require to enhance crop yield. The indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides affect not only the soil sustainability but also imparted the negative impact on environment and human health, besides increasing the input cost for crop production especially for the marginal farmers. Now a day, environment friendly plant growth promoting rhizobia (PGPR) has emerged as an alternative tool to minimise the application of chemical fertilizers.
