Coliform bacteria are essential variables for assessing riverine water quality. In this study, the faecal indicator bacteria (FIB) in relationship with some physico-chemical variables were investigated during the period 2020-2022 for four urban rivers (To Lich, Lu, Set, and Kim Nguu) in the inner Hanoi city to provide the updated water quality of these rivers.

Vital factor towards increased plant growth was the amount of IAA secreted by the organism (i.e. 2.65 mg IAA/100 ml of the culture filtrate) which is reasonably high in comparison to earlier reports available. Furthermore, PSB has also demonstrated bioremediation potential against harmful heavy metals such as copper, lead, nickel and arsenic by tolerating upto 25 mM indicating it’s prospective in remediating heavy metal contaminated agricultural fields.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of three commercial GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) products against six bacterial and one fungal strain, through the agar well diffusion method, determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC). Obtained results indicate strong antimicrobial effects of investigated extracts, with different microbial susceptibility, including the multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria.

Antiinfective properties of ursolic acid-loaded chitosan nanoparticles against Staphylococcus aureus
The present study aimed to synthesize ursolic acid-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (UA-Ch-NPs) as an antiinfective agent against 21 Staphylococcus aureus isolates. The UA-Ch-NPs were synthesized by a simple method and then characterized by TEM, FTIR, DLS-zeta potential, and XRD analyses. According to the characterization results, highly dispersed spherical nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 258 nm and a zeta potential of + 40.1 mV were developed. The antibacterial properties of UA-Ch-NPs were investigated and their inhibitory effect on biofilm formation was demonstrated by AFM.

Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is stored as an important carbon and energy source in bacterial cells. For biomedical applications, gram-positive bacteria can be better sources of PHAs, since they lack outer membrane lipopolysaccharide. Although gram-positive Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) has been indicated as a high potential PHA producer, phaC gene that encodes the key enzyme PHA synthase in the metabolic pathway is not determined in its genome.

Pneumonia and septic pneumonic shock are the most common indications for long-term mechanical ventilation and prolonged weaning, independent of any comorbidities. Multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria are emerging as a cause of pneumonia or occur as a consequence of antimicrobial therapy.

In the present investigation, an attempt was made to assess the compatibility of six agrochemicals such as Fungicides (Metalaxyl and Tricyclazole), Insecticides (Profenophos and Chloranthraniliprole) and Herbicides (Glyphosate and Atrazine) against five potassium releasing bacterial and two fungal isolates from Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Compatibility tests indicated that glyphosate has much severe effect on microbial biomass at low, recommended and double doses.

These chitinase-producing bacterial strains were tested for antagonistic activity against the causal agent of bulb and stem rots of lilies, Fusarium oxysporum, and the results indicated antifungal activity of the four strains HP02, VRQ9, HM03, and GL10. The HP02 strain had the highest level of chitinase activity and was capable of being antagonistic to Fusarium oxysporum. Based on morphological and biochemical characteristics, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis of this sequence along with sequences from GenBank, HP02 was identified as Bacillus subtilis.

The objective of present study was to screen and isolate protease producing bacteria from soil samples collected from rhizospheric soil of apple orchard from Kotkhai of Shimla District. Collected soil samples were serially diluted and 0.1ml of sample was spread on skim milk agar plates at 370C for 48 hrs. Out of fifteen, six bacterial colonies from rhizospheric soil samples showed clear zone around the colony indicating protease activity.

Food safety is a growing public health concern of both in the developing, and developed nations. The consumption of chemically preserved foods raises the concern among the consumer for naturally produced antimicrobial agents. Therefore, in the present study an attempt has been made for the preparation of apricot RTS and apricot plum with bacteriocin Lactobacillus brevis SM6 (crude and purified) and was compared with standard chemical preservative (sodium benzoate) to evaluate the effect of biopreservation in the food.

In the recent past, there has been an explosion of probiotic health-based products. However, there are many reports indicated that there is poor survival of probiotic bacteria in these products. Further, the survival of these bacteria in the human gastro-intestinal system is questionable. Providing probiotic living cells with a physical barrier against adverse environmental conditions is therefore an approach currently receiving considerable interest. Microencapsulation being one of the most modern methods has considerable effects on probiotic survival.

The present investigation was undertaken for in vitro screening of antibacterial activities of different extracts (ethyl acetate, methanol and benzene) of various plant parts of Achyranthes aspera, Azolla pinnata, Cissus quadrangularis. In vitro antibacterial efficacy of plants selected was assessed by well diffusion method against pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The ethyl acetate extract of Cissus quadrangularis exhibited highest zone of inhibition against S. aureus (25±1.3mm) followed by Achyranthes aspera (20.0±0.

A red pigment producing bacteria was isolated from soil sample which was identified by 16S r RNA sequencing as Serratia rubidaea JCM 1204T. The red pigment produced was tested for prodigiosin by presumptive color test, adsorption spectra, and its quantification was carried out on King’s B medium. For presumptive color test, the extracted pigment solution was divided into two portions. One part was acidified with a drop of concentrated HCl and the other part was alkalinized with a drop of concentrated ammonia solution.

The aim of this work was to detect the presence of bacterial species in Yamuna river water from six different sites namely (S1) Mahewa Ghat, (S2) Gau Ghat, (S3) Old Naini Bridge, (S4) New Naini Bridge, (S5) Arail Ghat, (S6) Saraswati Ghat. Total 36 samples of water were used for isolation purpose. Salmonella were detected in 5 samples with highest ranking (13.9%). Salmonella spp. isolates belonged to the species S. typhi (two isolates), S. enterica, S. choleraesuis, S. gallinarum while Vibrio were detected in 4 samples (11.2%). Vibrio spp. isolates belonged to the following species V.

The microbial pollution caused by human activities exposes urban areas of the Comoe River to major health risks linked to any pathogens presence. This study aims to assess microbiological water quality using fecal indicators bacteria (FIB) in order to determine potential risk for the populations and understand FIBs’ seasonal variability.

The prevalence of multi drug resistant gram negative bacteria has increased continuously over the past few years, of particular concern are strains producing AmpC β-lactamases. The irrational uses of antibiotics are the primary cause of the increase in drug resistant bacteria. Several studies have reported that AmpC producers are isolated mainly from patients with prolonged hospitalization, but certain recent studies have reported that AmpC producers was also isolated from long term care facilities and outpatient clinics, which indicate their presence in the community.

Slanted Soil Treatment System (SSTS) was previously designed for onsite greywater treatment. In this study, several configurations were tested with granitic gravel in order to improve its efficiency. The lowest average removal efficiencies for fecal coliforms, enterococci and E. coli were 1.78, 2.15 and 2.21 log u. respectively and originated from case 3 (length 3 m, width 20 cm, grain size in second box 1-4 mm).
