This study aimed to diagnose swine dysentery (SD) caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae in pigs by the PCR method in Vietnam. Of the 250 samples, 29 isolates of B. hyodysenteriae (11.60%) were identified by PCR in seven provinces of Northern Vietnam, and the infection rate differed from region to region.

Bacterial meningitis is an acute central nervous infection with high mortality or permanent neurological sequelae if remained undiagnosed. The present study will therefore aim to set up in-house PCR assays for diagnosis of six pathogens causing the disease including H. influenzae type b, S. pneumoniae, N. meningitidis, S. suis serotype 2, E. coli and S. aureus.

Severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is an exceptionally rare genetic disorder associated with life-threatening bacterial infections. Among the several genetic variations related to SCN, heterozygous mutations in the ELANE gene encoding neutrophil elastase account for approximately 40 - 55% of the genetic causes.

Regulatory B cells (Bregs) produce antiinflammatory cytokines and inhibits proinflammatory response. Recently, immunosuppressive roles of Bregs in the effector functions of dendritic cells (DCs) were demonstrated. However, cross talk between Bregs and DCs in Helicobacter infection remains unknown. Here, we showed that direct stimulation of bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs) with Helicobacter felis (H.

The objective was to assess the distribution of urinary tract bacterial pathogens and to determine the antibiotic susceptibility profile of the isolates in our setting. Single positive cultures with a colony count of >105 CFU on CLED medium were identified and their antibiotic sensitivity and resistance profile was depicted in the form of an antibiogram.

The soil-borne necrotrophic fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Ciceris (FOC)infects chickpeaand causes wilt in any stage of plant from seedling to podding. Owing to climate change and ever changing nature of the pathogen, no resistant host cultivar is sustaining long against this disease. Hence, root resident Aspergillus niger isolates as native mycoflora were evaluated as bioagent against the FOC because chemical control has long been discouraged due to its circulation in food chain. In this study, we established the biocontrol potential of organic acid producing A.

Morphological and cultural variability of S. rolfsii infecting tomato were studied on different solid and liquid media based on radial growth, topography, sclerotial number, diameter of sclerotia, test weight of sclerotial bodies and dry mycelial weight. Significant variability with reference to mycelial and sclerotial characters was observed on different media. This investigation revealed that the maximum mycelial growth was observed in Potato Dextrose Agar (9 cm) and more test weight (262 mg) of sclerotial bodies was recorded in Sabouraud’s dextrose agar.

Trypanosoma brucei is the cause of the diseases known as sleeping sickness in humans (T. brucei ssp. gambiense and ssp. rhodesiense) and ngana in domestic animals (T. brucei brucei) in Africa. Procyclic trypomastigotes, the tsetse vector stage, express a surface-bound trans-sialidase that transfers sialic acid to the glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor of procyclin, a surface glycoprotein covering the parasite surface. Trans-sialidase is a unique enzyme expressed by a few trypanosomatids that allows them to scavenge sialic acid from sialylated compounds present in the infected host. ...

Hypoxia interrupts the initiation of simian virus 40 (SV40) replication in vivo at a stage situated before unwinding of the origin region. After re-oxygenation, unwinding followed by a synchronous round of viral replication takes place. To further characterize the hypoxia-induced inhibition of unwinding, we analysed the binding of several replication proteins to the viral minichromosome before and after re-oxygenation.

Xanthomonas campestrispv.vitians is a Gram-negative plant-associated bacterium that acts as causative agent of bacterial leaf spot and headrot in lettuce. The lipopolysac-charide of this bacterium is suspected to be an important molecule for adhesion to and infection of the plants. The lipopolysaccharide has been isolated from the phenol phase and the O-specific chain characterized by compositional analysis, high fieldNMRandMALDI-TOFMS.

Mortality in the host armyworm larvaePseudaletia separata parasitized by the parasitic waspCotesia kariyaiwas dra-matically increased when they were simultaneously infected by the entomopathogen Serratia marcescens. Previous studies have shown that this strong insecticidal effect is due to a metalloprotease-like insecticide (MPLI)released from S. marcescensenterobacter. This study was conducted to elucidate the exact cause of the mortality resulting from MPLI.

Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasitic protozoan that causes Chagas disease, contains a major cysteine proteinase, cruzipain. This lysosomal enzyme bears an unusual C-terminal extension that contains a number of post-translational modifications, and most antibodies in natural and experimen-tal infections are directed against it. In this report we took advantage of UV-MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry in conjunction with peptide N-gly-cosidase F deglycosylation and high performance anion exchange chroma-tography analysis to address the structure of the N-linked oligosaccharides present in this domain. ...
