This study was designed to test the antiangiogenesis effect of Lyc and to explore the possible mechanisms. We performed cell experiments to confrm Lyc’s inhibitory effect on angiogenesis and employed sunitinib as a positive control. Moreover, the synergistic effect of Lyc and sunitinib was also explored.

Using the natural agents with inhibitory activity against digestive enzymes α-glucosidase and αamylase capable of hydrolyzing carbohydrates into glucose to reduce blood glucose levels in the blood is one of the effective strategies to control diabetes, especially type II diabetes. α-Mangostin (AMG) was proven to have strong biological activities, such as antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer.

In this paper, we have prepared peripherally tetra-({6-[3-(diethylamino)phenoxy]hexyl}oxy substituted cobalt(II), copper(II), manganese(III) phthalocyanines (3, 4, 5) and their water-soluble derivatives (3a, 4a, 5a). Then, in vitro α-glucosidase and cholinesterases inhibitory actions of the water-soluble 3a, 4a, 5a were examined using spectrophotometric methods. 4a had the highest inhibitory effects among the tested compounds against α-glucosidase due to IC50 values. 4a and 5a had 40 fold higher inhibitory effects than the positive control.

Our immune system has its self-regulation mechanisms. Leukocytes can regulate their functions via control of the gene expression and/or the secretion of cytokines. In the review "Cancer immunotherapy: Immune-checkpoint blockades", we resumed the way T-cells are regulated between active and inactive states. The discovery of two receptors for the transduction of inhibitory signals, the cytotoxic T-cell receptor and the programmed cell death receptor, is presented in the second part.

Three lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains, Lactobacillus sp. L5, Lactobacillus sp. L3, Lactobacillus sp. L2N, isolated from Vietnamese traditional Nem chua grew well in cabbage broth supplemented with 12 g/L glucose and 15 g/L peptone and showed inhibitory activity ranging from 40% to 44% against Aspergillus sp. CDP isolated from mould contaminated peanuts, while Daconil 75WP – a fungicide compounds – as a positive control showed only 26.9%.

There is increasing evidence of a pivotal role for regulated mRNA translation in control of developmental cell fate transitions. Physiological and pathological stem and progenitor cell self-renewal is maintained by the mRNA-binding protein, Musashi1 through repression of translation of key mRNAs encoding cell cycle inhibitory proteins.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a widely expressed cytokine involved in a variety of cellular processes including cell cycle regulation and the control of proliferation. Overexpression of MIF has been reported in a number of cancer types and it has previously been shown that MIF is upregulated in melanocytic tumours with the highest expression levels occurring in malignant melanoma.

The main objective of this study was to confirm and estimate the algal inhibiting effects of the ethanol and ethyl acetate E. fortunei extracts at concentrations of 500 mg.L- in some natural water samples collected from Hoan Kiem and Lang Lakes. The results of this work may be useful for controlling the toxic cyanobacterium bloom in natural aquatic ecosystem.

Early blight of potato caused by Alternaria alternata is one of the major diseases causing considerable yield loss. Efficacy of bio-agents was studied and revealed the all four Trichoderma species significantly reduced the mycelial growth of the pathogen over the control by dual culture method. Significantly maximum inhibition of mycelial growth was obtained with T. viride (57.08%) followed by T. azospirillum (50.00%), T. harzianum (43.26%) and T. virens (37.08%) of the pathogen after 48 hours of incubation. In present study, T. viride was observed more inhibitory against A. alternata...

The antimicrobial effect of hot and cold water extracts and infusions of herbs oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.), prepared in concentrations of 20%, was investigated using the classical agar-gel diffusion method. Pure cultures of 20 pathogenic strains were tested (by 4 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Enterococcus faecalis and Candida albicans). The highest antibacterial and antimycotic effect in vitro exhibited the infusions of both herbs, similar to that of the control broad-spectrum antibiotic thiamphenicol.

In dairy industry whey is a by-product during the manufacture of coagulated milk products such as paneer, channa, casein etc. Bioactive peptides produced by the fermentation of the whey have various biofunctional properties. The ACE inhibitory activity of cultured buttermilk prepared by addition of 40% fermented whey (RT3), 30% fermented whey (RT4) and control (RT5) were found to be 69.24, 64.50 and 57.63 per cent respectively.

The antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the nutmeg oil (NMO) were assessed in the present study, and its optimum inclusion level in chicken meat patties as a natural preservative was ascertained. NMO was added to the chicken patties at 0.01%, 0.05% and 0.10% levels. Chicken patties without any addition served as control. Emulsion pH, product pH, emulsion stability, product yield and water activity did not differ significantly among the treatments. DPPH scavenging activity of NMO was significantly highest in 0.10% and lowest in 0.01% treatments.

The objective of the this study is to provide an in vitro evidence for the potential antioxidant activity of the ethanolic and aqueous extracts from fruiting bodies of Pycnoporus sanguineus (L.: Fr.) Murrill mushroom via DPPH free radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibition assays. DPPH free radical and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activities of ethanolic and aqueous extracts from fruiting bodies of P. sanguineus were examined in a dose-response manner. Ascorbic acid and trolox were used as a positive control for these assays.

Lymphocyte-activation gene (LAG)3 is a 498 aa transmembrane type I protein acting as an immune inhibitory receptor. It is expressed on activated lymphocytes, natural killer cells and plasmacytoid dendritic cells. In activated lymphocytes, LAG3 expression is involved in negative control of cell activation/proliferation to ensure modulation and control of immune responses.
