Grounded in speech act theory, politeness theory, and concepts of offers and refusals, the research examines both direct and indirect refusal methods, offering a more focused analysis than previous studies on general refusals.

The research is located within theories associated with experiential learning and authentic learning. It explores how these theories can be extended to student learning in, and for, the global business context, using the virtual learning space.
