In this study, the pre-purified pigment extracts from the cactus fruits of Opuntia stricta var. dillenii (Opuntia) and vegetable leaves from Atriplex hortensis var. rubra (Atriplex) were fractionated by high performance CCC (HPCCC) using the ion-pair solvent system of tert.-butylmethyl-ether/n-butanol/acetonitrile/water, trifluoroacetic acid (TBMe/n-BuOH/ACN/water) (v/v/v/v, 2:2:1:5, 1% TFA).

Fluorinated carboxylic acids have been in use as ion-pairing reagents for over three decades. It has been observed that ion-pairing reagents not only increase the retention of oppositely charged analytes on reversed-phase HPLC columns but also decrease the retention of similarly charged analytes.

A method for the quantitative determination of the protein composition of adenovirus-vector based vaccines was developed. The final method used RP-UPLC with UV absorbance detection, a C4 column (300Å, 1.7 m, 2.1 × 150 mm), and a water- acetonitrile (ACN) gradient containing trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) as ion-pairing agent.

A combined experimental and theoretical study was performed to understand how the pore size of packing materials with pores 60–300 A˚ in size affects the separation of 5–50-mer oligonucleotides. For this purpose, we developed a model in which the solutes were described as thin rods to estimate the accessible surface area of the solute as a function of the pore size and solute size.

Here it was investigated how oligonucleotide retention and selectivity factors are affected by electrostatic and non-electrostatic interactions in ion pair chromatography. A framework was derived describing how selectivity depends on the electrostatic potential generated by the ion-pair reagent concentration, co-solvent volume fraction, charge difference between the analytes, and temperature.

Surfactant-enhanced hollow fiber liquid phase (SE-HF-LPME) microextraction was applied for the extraction of melamine in conjunction with high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC–UV). Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was added firstly to the sample solution at pH 1.9 to form hydrophobic ion-pair with protonated melamine. Then the protonated melamine–dodecyl sulfate ion-pair (Mel–DS) was extracted from aqueous phase into organic phase immobilized in the pores and lumen of the hollow fiber.
