We present a method to produce graphene flakes (GFs) from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle wastes by the pyrolysis method using modified bentonite as a catalyst. The as-synthesized GFs are analyzed in terms of crystal phase, morphology, and surface chemistry. The synthesized GFs have a porous, thin, and leaf-like morphology with a length ranging from a few hundred nanometers to a few tens of micrometers.

The effect of reaction parameters like the amount of reagents, catalyst, temperature and time of a polyol synthesis were studied through the hydroxyl and oxirane oxygen content of product. Moreover, the impact of the parameters on the correlation P/E was determined by comparing a hydroxyl group formation to an epoxide group consumption. When the hydroxylation reaction was carried out with ESO:H2O mole ratio of 1:15; in 8 wt.% H2SO4; at temperature of 70 oC and in 5 hours, the hydroxyl content of 358.51 mgKOH/g of the obtained product was achieved.

This paper presents the study on the UV-Vis spectra, change of color and some properties of high density polyethylene/organo-modified calcium carbonate (HDPE/m-CaCO3) composites exposed naturally in Dong Hoi district, Quang Binh province (Vietnam). From June 2014 to June 2016, the samples of HDPE/m-CaCO3 composites were tested naturally on outdoor shelves at Dong Hoi sea atmosphere region (at Dong Hoi, Quang Binh).

From the ethyl acetate extract of the rhizomes from Belamcanda chinensis (Iridaceae) five compounds irisflorentin (1), tectorigenin (2), iristectorigenin A (3), irigenin (4), and acetovanillone(5) were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. This is first report of 5 from B. chinensis.

Using various chromatography methods, three merosesquiterpenes belonging to sesquiterpene quinone type, neodactyloquinone (1), dactyloquinone D (2), and dactyloquinone C (3) together with two indole derivatives indole-3- aldehyde (4) and indole-3-cacboxylic methyl ester (5) were isolated from the methanol extract of the Vietnamese marine sponge Smenospongia cerebriformis. Their structures were determined by 1D-, 2D-NMR spectra, HR-ESI-MS and in comparison with those reported in the literature.

The sepiolite support possesses fibrous structure. X-ray diffraction analysis pointed out that the TiO2 particles are firmly distributed on fibrous sepiolite matrix. All TiO2/sepiolite samples were tested for the degradation of rhodamine B and showed a high catalytic activity. The experimental data showed that the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B is correlated with the amount of TiO2 loadings and oxidant behavior. At room temperature, the conversion of rhodamine B reaches to 99-100 % over 6.0 wt% TiO2/sepiolite catalyst.

A benzothiazolium-derived colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor (L) for detection of mercury ions has been prepared. The detection limits of the colorimetric and fluorescent method for mercury ions are 15.3 and 11.8 ppb, respectively, much lower than the reported chemosensors based on similar derivatives of benzothiazolium.

Caffeine was isolated from dry green tea leaves and used as corrosion inhibitor. The aim of this paper is to study the corrosion inhibition behavior of caffeine with its different concentrations (from 0.01 g/L to 3.00 g/L) for CT3 steel in 1M HCl solution by the curve polarization measurements and surface examination studies. Experiment result showed that: as the concentration of caffeine increases, the inhibition efficiency increases; %IE max is approximately 83.27% at concentration of caffeine 3.00 g/L.

These results indicate that sol-gel processing is a promising method for preparing Ni-rich cathode materials. The sample prepared under the optimal conditions had a well ordered hexagonal layered structure. The charge–discharge tests showed that the initial capacities of the sample were 220.456 and 185.937 mAhg -1 at the discharge rate of 0.1 C between 3.0 and 4.3 V, respectively. The capacity retention ratio was 81.36 % at 1 C after 50 cycles.
