Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a common and heterogeneous malignancy of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx. Surgery and radio(chemo)therapy are the standard treatment options and also have great influence on the composition of the tumor microenvironment and immune cell functions.

Positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) is currently recommended in evaluating the treatment response after (chemo)radiotherapy ([C]RT). In the larynx, post-treatment changes and physiological uptake make image interpretation more challenging compared to other head and neck sites.

Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is one of the highly aggressive malignancy types of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas; genes involved in the development of LSCC still need exploration.

Radiotherapy, along with laser surgery, is considered a standard treatment option for patients with early glottic squamous cell cancer (SCC). Historically, patients have received complete larynx radiotherapy (CL-RT) due to fear of swallowing and respiratory laryngeal motion and this remains the standard approach in many academic institutions.

Persistent dysphagia following primary chemoradiation (CRT) for head and neck cancers can have a devastating impact on patients’ quality of life. Single arm studies have shown that the dosimetric sparing of critical swallowing structures such as the pharyngeal constrictor muscle and supraglottic larynx can translate to better functional outcomes.

Emerging evidences proposed that microRNAs are associated with regulation of distinct physiopathological processes including development of normal stem cells and carcinogenesis. In this study we aimed to investigate microRNA profile of cancer stem-like cells (CSLCs) isolated form freshly resected larynx cancer (LCa) tissue samples.

Advanced stage operable cancers of larynx are treated with total laryngectomy including thyroid resection in most of the cases, which may expose patient to hypothyroidism and hypoparathyroidism. The requirement of thyroidectomy during Total Laryngectomy is controversial.

Adequate working space and a clear view for the dissected lesion are crucial for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Pharyngeal ESD requires that an otorhinolaryngologist creates working space by lifting the larynx with a curved laryngoscope.

Patients suffering from squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx (LSCC) with lymphatic metastasis have a relatively poor prognosis and often require radical therapeutic management. The mechanisms which drive metastasis to the lymph nodes are largely unknown but may be promoted by a pro-angiogenic tumor microenvironment.

To evaluate the antitumor effects of the combination treatment with measles vaccine virus and nimotuzumab in vivo. Materials and methods: We used human larynx cancer cell to form tumors on nude mice by xenograft model and to evaluate the anti-cancer effects of measles vaccine virus + nimotuzumab combination by assessing the survival time of mice and the rate of tumor cells induced apoptosis.

The aim of this study is: To assess the anti-cancer effects of 131I-nimotuzumab on immune deficient mouse bearing human laryngeal cancer. In this study, we used EGFR-specific monoclonal antibody, nimotuzumab in combination with 131I to form 131I-nimotuzumab complex, and evaluated the antitumor activity of this complex in immunocompromised mice xenografted with the human laryngeal cancer line Hep2. This is the initial basis for the development of this complex application for laryngeal cancer treatment in the future.

If you think sticking your head in the text books will give you all the answers about workplace cancer risks, you’d be wrong. Barely one in every 100 chemicals used at work has been systematically tested. Finding out if there is a workplace risk requires union vigilance. That means doing your own detective work. Unions have been instrumental in first identifying a number of workplace cancers, from bladder cancer in dye workers to liver cancer in vinyl chloride workers. Remember, keep it as simple as possible.

A risk factor is anything that changes a person's chance of getting a disease such as cancer. Different cancers have different risk factors. For example, unprotected exposure to strong sunlight is a risk factor for skin cancer and smoking is a risk factor for cancers of the lungs, mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, and several other organs. Scientists have found few risk factors that make a person more likely to develop adrenal gland tumors. Even if a patient does have one or more risk factors for adrenal gland tumors, it is impossible to know for sure how much that risk factor...

Young doctors are the future of our Society. Therefore, I am hoping to see a global network created for young gynecologists who are interested in gynecologic cancer. If young doctors from various countries start to communicate effectively and share information with each other, we can both improve and standardize cancer treatment and contribute to the well-being of women worldwide. Education for young doctors is very important because they are still pure and have a sensitivity to share experiences of all kinds.

Epithelial carcinomas of the head and neck arise from the mucosal surfaces in the head and neck area and typically are squamous cell in origin. This category includes tumors of the paranasal sinuses, the oral cavity, and the nasopharynx, oropharynx, hypopharynx, and larynx. Tumors of the salivary glands differ from the more common carcinomas of the head and neck in etiology, histopathology, clinical presentation, and therapy.
