Levels of K on maize
-
The present investigation was conducted to study the effect of different sources and levels of K on maize (Zea mays L.) yield, nutrient content and uptake by maize crop. Two field experiments were conducted in farmer’s field at Sasalu and Sothenhalli villages of Dodaballapur taluk during kharif 2014 and 2015.

Nitrogen and Phosphorus are the two most essential nutrients in popcorn. Others nutrients that are limiting in soil and require fertilization for popcorn are K, S, Zn, Fe, etc. To produce one tone of grain and dry matter, maize crop withdraws 8.0 kg of N, 2.5 kg of P2O5 and 18 kg of K2O from the soil.

Agricultural production continues to be constrained by a number of biotic and abiotic factors that can reduce crop yield quantity and quality. Potassium (K) is an essential nutrient that affects most of the physiological processes that influence plant growth. To understand the effect of potassium, a pot culture experiment was carried out with graded levels of potassium to study the influence of potassium on physiological parameters of maize in black calcareous and non-calcareous soils.

An experiment was conducted during Kharif 2016 on Soil Conservation and Water Management Farm, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur on hybrid Maize with three level of inorganic fertilizers (kg/ha) i.e. 100% R.D.F. (100 N + 60 P + 40 K+ 20 Z), 75% RDF (75+45+30+15), and 50% RDF (50+30+20+10) along with three Levels of organic manure viz., 15, 20 and 25 ton FYM/ha.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2012 in Inceptisols of Northern hills zone of Chhattisgarh to estimate the nutritional requirement, efficiencies of fertilizer, soil test and organic source (FYM) to estimate the fertilizer requirement for varying yield goals of maize crop based on soil test levels using INM approach. Maize crop required 1.59 kg N, 0.32 kg P and 1.84 kg K for one quintal grain production. Fertilizer and soil test efficiencies estimated were 41.84 and 22.53 percent, respectively for N, 28.28 and 52.67 percent, respectively for P and 140.33 and 26.

A field experiment is conducted to study the effect of integrated use of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients and biofertilizers on growth and nutrient content of maize in Alfisols of Hyderabad. The results revealed that among the inorganic nutrient treatments 100% RDF treated plots recoded significantly higher yield and nutrient content and uptake of grain and stover. The reduction in levels of fertilizers reduced the growth of the maize.

The present study entitled “Influence of zeolite and nitrogen levels on grain yield and nutrient uptake of maize grown in red soils,” was a pot culture study carried out in Green House of Soil Science department, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, PJTSAU, Hyderabad, Telangana state during kharif, 2018-19. The treatments consists of combinations of 3 levels of nitrogen (100, 150, 200 kg ha-1 ) and 4 levels of zeolite (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 t ha-1 ) along with a control in which only P and K were applied and they were replicated thrice in a factorial completely randomized design.

The concept of balanced fertilization with proper method at proper time paves the way for optimum profitability of farmers. Since most of the soils in Koshi region of Bihar are sandy clay in their textural class with medium to low in N, P, K and Zn. Due to that farmers of Koshi region applying nutrients unscientifically.

An experiment was conducted during 2015-2016 in sandy loams at Jammu under the INM in maize-wheat system. The results revealed that the application of recommended levels of NPK to maize-wheat with FYM, VC and biofertilizers (Azotobacter and phosphate solubilizing bacteria) resulted in grain 66.53 per cent and straw 13.00 per cent increase over control in maize and wheat yields, respectively. Increasing levels of 50% N+recom.P+K+S+Zn+B +VC+Azoto+PSB significantly increased the yield of both the crops.
