  • Lymphoma represents a heterogeneous group of cancers affecting the lymphatic system, encompassing nonHodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). The majority of NHL cases originate from B cells. HL is characterized by the presence of rare Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg cells. Within the context of the inflammatory response, two SH2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatases (SHPs), namely SHP-1 and SHP-2, serve as negative regulators.

  • Lipoxygenases are a family of enzymes which catalyse the hydroperoxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids with a cis, cis-1,4-pentadiene to form conjugated hydroperoxydienes. Lipoxygenase-1 (LOX-1) in barley worsens the flavour and foam stability of beer. It has become a major selection criteria for malting quality in the last few years.

  • Overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plant cells under environmental stress cause oxidative stress, which is one of major factors limiting the plant productivity. To prevent this limitation by stress conditions, a possible strategy is to strengthen the antioxidant defense of plants by gene manipulation of antioxidant enzymes and low molecular-weight (LMW) antioxidants. LMW antioxidants are important for the plant protection to environmental stress and also have nutritional merits for humans as antiaging and antidisease molecules.
