This article introduces a KBF designed for a simplified spatial vehicle model that uses only the vertical, roll, and pitch velocity of the sprung mass as measured outputs to estimate the sprung mass and roll and pitch moment of inertia of a two-axle truck.

The thesis " A Study of Vibration Control of Truck Seat Suspension System" has designed a novel active truck seat suspension system for a further study of active vibration control. A 5-degree-of-freedom driver and seating suspension system model for active vibration control has been developed. A novel fast system parameter identification method from vibration measurement data has been proposed for the seat-occupant system based on the multi-objective Genetic Algorithm optimization (GA).

The degradation and mineralization efficiency of NB in the systems looked at in this study were determined by measuring the NB concentration and COD values before and after reaction. The influence of pH, Fe(0)-mass and EDTA on the degradation and mineralization efficiencies were also investigated.

Introduction to shock & vibration gives an introduction to vibration through a description of the most common mechanical parameters leading to the behaviour of simple mass spring systems. Furthermore the different types of signals and their description is treated and the conversion between the different parameters is described mathematically and graphically. Finally the measurement units are defined.

A series of trehalose-based oligosaccharides were isolated from the cytoplasmic fraction of Mycobacterium smegmatis and purified by gel-filtration and paper chromatography and TLC. Their structures were determined by HPLC and GLC to determine sugar composition and ratios, MALDI-TOF MS to measure molecular mass, methylation analysis to determine linkages, 1H-NMR to obtain anomeric configurations of glycosidic linkages, and exoglycosidase digestions followed by TLC to determine sequences and anomeric configurations of the monosaccharides....

We report the isolation of a novel antimicrobial peptide, bass hepcidin, from the gill of hybrid striped bass, white bass (Morone chrysops) · striped bass (M. saxatilis). After the intraperitoneal injection of Micrococcus luteus and Escherichia coli, the peptide was purified from HPLC fractions with antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli. Sequencing by Edman degradation revealed a 21-residue peptide (GCRFCCNCCPNMSGCGVCCRF) with eight putative cysteines.

Metabolic fluxes provide a detailed metric of the cellular metabolic phenotype. Fluxes are estimated indirectly from available measurements and various methods have been developed for this purpose. Of particular interest are meth-ods making use of stable isotopic tracers as they enable the estimation of fluxes at a high resolution. In this paper, we present data validating the use of mass spectrometry (MS) for the quantification of complex metabolic flux networks.

In several organisms d-cysteine desulfhydrase (d-CDes) activity (EC 4.1.99.4) was measured; this enzyme decomposes d-cysteine into pyruvate, H2S, and NH3. A gene encoding a putative d-CDes protein was identified in Arabidopsis thaliana(L) Heynh. based on high homology to an Escherichia coliprotein called YedO that hasd-CDes activity. The deduced Arabidopsisprotein consists of 401 amino acids and has a molecular mass of 43.9 kDa.

We monitored a continuous culture of the yeastSaccharomyces cerevisiae by membrane-inlet mass spectrometry. This technique allows very rapid simultaneous measurements (one point every 12 s) of several dissolved gases. During our experiment, the culture exhibited a multioscillatory mode in which the dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide records displayed period-icities of 13 h, 36 min and 4 min.

A Hausdorff measure version of the Duffin-Schaeffer conjecture in metric number theory is introduced and discussed. The general conjecture is established modulo the original conjecture. The key result is a Mass Transference Principle which allows us to transfer Lebesgue measure theoretic statements for lim sup subsets of Rk to Hausdorff measure theoretic statements. In view of this, the Lebesgue theory of lim sup sets is shown to underpin the general Hausdorff theory. This is rather surprising since the latter theory is viewed to be a subtle refinement of the former. ...

Obviously, (1.2) implies the same estimate for M(Z(QN, P)). It was suggested in [2] that in this case the (1+logN) term could be omitted at the cost of multiplying by a constant. The above suggestion means that in the passage from the sum of moduli to the modulus of the sum in (1.1) essential cancellation should take place. As a contribution towards this end the authors showed that any straight line L intersects Z(QN, P) in a set FP of linear measure less than 2eP−1N. Further information about the complement of FP under certain conditions on {zk} is obtained in [1].

Although radiation can interfere with many cellular processes, many experts feel that a cell must undergo a double-strand DNA break from radiation in order to be killed. The factors that influence tumor cell killing include the D0 of the tumor (the dose required to deliver an average of one lethal hit to all the cells in a population), the Dq of the tumor (the threshold dose—a measure of the cell's ability to repair sublethal damage), hypoxia, tumor mass, growth fraction, and cell cycle time and phase (cells in late G1 and S are more resistant). Rate of clinical response...

Physical Features Patients with AN typically have few physical complaints but may note cold intolerance. Gastrointestinal motility is diminished, leading to reduced gastric emptying and constipation. Some women who develop AN after menarche report that their menses ceased before significant weight loss occurred. Weight and height should be measured to allow calculation of body mass index (BMI; kg/m2). Vital signs may reveal bradycardia, hypotension, and mild hypothermia. Soft, downy hair growth (lanugo) sometimes occurs, and alopecia may be seen.

The average total daily energy expenditure is higher in obese than lean individuals when measured at stable weight. However, energy expenditure falls as weight is lost, due in part to loss of lean body mass and to decreased sympathetic nerve activity. When reduced to near-normal weight and maintained there for a while, (some) obese individuals have lower energy expenditure than (some) lean individuals. There is also a tendency for those who will develop obesity as infants or children to have lower resting energy expenditure rates than those who remain lean.

Anthropometrics Anthropometric measurements provide information on body muscle mass and fat reserves. The most practical and commonly used measurements are body weight, height, triceps skinfold (TSF), and mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC). Body weight is one of the most useful nutritional parameters to follow in patients who are acutely or chronically ill. Unintentional weight loss during illness often reflects loss of lean body mass (muscle and organ tissue), especially if it is rapid and not caused by diuresis.
