Ebook "Nonlinear solid mechanics: A continuum approach for engineering" opens with a fundamental chapter on vectors and tensors. The following chapters are based on nonlinear continuum mechanics - an inevitable prerequisite for computational mechanicians. In addition, continuum field theory (applied to a representative sample of hyperelastic materials currently used in nonlinear computations such as incompressible and compressible materials) is presented, as are transversely isotropic materials, composite materials, viscoelastic materials and hyperelastic materials with isotropic damage.

The influence of porosity distribution pattern on the nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behavior of porous cylindrical shells subjected to axial compression are investigated by the analytical approach in this paper. The material properties are assumed to vary through the thickness of the shell. There are three porosity distribution pattern types are considered.

his paper investigates the nonlinear vibration of imperfect smart sandwich plate which consists of an auxetic graphene reinforced metal matrix composite (GRRMC) core layer integrated with two magneto-electro-elastic face sheets. The Poisson’s ratio of the GRMMC core is negative while the material properties of magneto-electro-elastic face sheets depend on the volume fraction of piezoelectric and piezomagnetic phases.

The paper "Nonlinear vibration of functionally graded porous micro-beams resting on elastic foundation" presents the analysis of nonlinear vibration of functionally graded porous (FGP) micro-beams resting on an elastic foundation. The Euler-Bernoulli beam theory (EBT) and the nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) are considered to establish the equations of motion of the micro-beam. The material properties of the micro-beam are assumed to be changed continuously along thickness direction according to simple power-law distribution.

Large deflections of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) sandwich beams are studied in this paper by a nonlinear finite element procedure. The core of the beams is homogeneous while the two faces are of CNTRC material. The effective properties of the two CNTRC face sheets are determined by an extended rule of mixture. CNTs are reinforced into matrix phase through uniform distribution (UD) or four different types of functionally graded (FG) distribution, named as FG-X, FG-A, FG-V, FG-O.

According to the batch experiments, the adsorption isotherms and the adsorption kinetics for these mesoporous materials are well fitted with the nonlinear Langmuir model and the nonlinear pseudo-second-order model, respectively. Among them, CuFe2O4 powder showed the best phosphate adsorption performance with the maximum P adsorption capacity of 27.49 mgP g-1 , which can be assigned to the highest surface area and the high pH value at its point of zero charge.

This paper presents a method for establishing the exact receptance function of a tapered axially functionally graded (AFG) beam with nonlinear ratios of properties using the Adomian method. In current papers, the Adomian method was applied for linearly tapered beams where the geometric series was used conveniently.

Ebook "Modelling water flow in unsaturated porous media: Accounting for nonlinear permeability and material heterogeneity" focuses on two issues related to mathematical and numerical modelling of flow in unsaturated porous media. In the first part numerical solution of the governing equations is discussed, with particular emphasis on the spatial discretization of highly nonlinear permeability coefficient. The second part deals with large scale flow in heterogeneous porous media of binary structure.
