Commercially produced herbal green teas consumed in Ghana are mostly those imported into the country. However, there are many plants such as “Srenunum” (Lippia multiflora) and lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), that are used by Ghanaians to brew herbal tea. The objectives of this study were to develop a tea product from the aforementioned herbs and “reishi” (Ganoderma lucidum), a medicinal mushroom.

Differences in anomericity and in the branching degree of glucans lead to characteristic intermolecular association that influences their solubility in water or other solvents. A simple purification approach, based on the glucan solubility in aq. 0.1 M NaOH solution, was applied for the separation of mixed water-insoluble α-Dglucans from β-D-glucans extracted from fruiting bodies of Fomitopsis betulina, which is an underexploited medicinal mushroom.

Numerous studies of lingzhi, mainly in Vietnam, China, Korea, Japan and United States, have shown its effectiveness in treatment of a very wide range of diseases and symptoms. Lingzhi is the only known source of a group of triterpenes (those similar to steroid hormones), polysaccharides, cumarin, alkaloids... But the study on chemical constituents of lingzhi still has a shortage. In this paper we reported our last investigation on the chemical composition of Ganoderma lucidum, cultivated in Hanoi city.

Nature has been a source of medicinal agents for thousands of years and an impressive number of modern drugs have been isolated from natural sources, based on their use in traditional medicine. Since ancient time’s plants as well as fungus sources of medicinal compounds have continued to play a dominant role in maintenance of human health. Over 50% of all modern clinical drugs are of natural product origin and play an important role in drug development programs in the pharmaceutical industry.

The GKVK campus is located in the northern part of Bangalore, Karnataka (India) comprising 1380 acres land area receives ~994.5 mm average rain fall and receives fairly good rain during monsoon. The climatic condition and soil are congenial for growth and development of different species of mushrooms. A variety of mushrooms belong edible, poisonous and medicinal species can be seen during rainy season. In this study, twenty one different mushroom species were collected during rainy season (July to October, 2014) and identified by Internal Transcribed Sequence (ITS) homology.
