Uveal melanoma (UVM) is the most common primary intraocular tumor in adults, with a median survival of 4–5 months following metastasis. DNA damage response (DDR) upregulation in UVM, which could be linked to its frequent activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway, contributes to its treatment resistance.

Molecular targeted therapy using a drug that suppresses the growth and spread of cancer cells via inhibition of a spe‑ cifc protein is a foundation of precision medicine and treatment. High expression of the proto-oncogene Bcl-3 promotes the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells originating from tissues such as the colon, prostate, breast, and skin.

Vulvar and vaginal melanoma (VuM & VaM) is a rare gynecologic malignancy with high mortality but low effectiveness to checkpoint immunotherapy compared to cutaneous melanoma. This article aims to elucidate the role of the disordered immune microenvironment in cancer progression in VuM.

Ebook "Regulation of gene expression in the tumor environment (Regulation of melanoma progression by the microenvironment: The roles of PAR-1 and PAF)" will discuss several different aspects on the cross talk within the tumor microenvironment components leading to the acquisition of the metastasis phenotype. It is our hope that these state-of-the-art studies will shed further light on our understanding of these complicated processes.

To evaluate the efficacy of sentinel lymph node biopsy in the treatment of malignant melanoma. Materials and methods: Thirty-two melanoma patients without distant or clinical lymph node metastasis underwent preoperative lymphoscintigraphy using Tc99m and a handheld gamma probe to identify sentinel lymph nodes for biopsy.

Pituitary metastases are rare, often deriving from lung or breast cancer owing to the upper vena cava proximity. Pituitary metastases can manifest with signs and symptoms of pituitary tumors, consequent to mass efect (headache, visual impairment) and/or hormonal alterations (hyperprolactinemia, hypopituitarism, and diabetes insipidus).

Melanoma is usually discovered from an irregular skin patch or a modification of a preexisting patch. Cutaneous and lymph node metastases are common. Muscle metastases are rare. We report a case of melanoma with infiltration of the gluteus maximus, which had normal dermatological examination.

The 8th edition UICC/AJCC TNM8 (Tumour, Nodes, Metastasis) melanoma staging system introduced several modifications from the 7th edition (TNM7), resulting in changes in survival and subgroup composition. We set out to address the limited validation of TNM8 (stages I-IV) in large population-based datasets.

Although uveal melanoma (UM) at the early stage is controllable to some extent, it inevitably ultimately leads to death due to its metastasis. At present, the difficulty is that there is no way to effectively tackle the metastasis.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy with a strong tendency to metastasize. The prognosis is poor once metastasis occurs. The treatment remains challenging for metastatic UM, even though our understanding of UM has advanced, mostly because the complexity of the genetic and immunologic background has not been fully explored.

Malignant melanoma in dogs is considered to be largely resistant to conventional chemotherapy, although responses to carboplatin have been documented. Invasion and early metastasis are common features of certain melanoma subtypes that contribute to tumour progression despite aggressive local and systemic therapy.

In horses, the autoimmune disease vitiligo is characterized by the loss of melanocytes and results in patchy depigmentation of the skin around the eyes, muzzle and the perianal region. Vitiligo-like depigmentation occurs predominantly in horses displaying the grey coat colour and is observed at a prevalence level of 26.0–67.0% in grey horses compared with only 0.8–3.5% in non-grey horses.

The formation of blood vessels within solid tumors directly contributes to cancer growth and metastasis. Until recently, tumor vasculature was thought to occur exclusively via endothelial cell (EC) lined structures (i.e. angiogenesis), but a second source of tumor vasculature arises from the cancer cells themselves, a process known as vasculogenic mimicry (VM).

It is very rare for clear cell sarcomas (CCS) to arise in the bone. During diagnosis, it is important to distinguish primary CCS of bone from bone metastasis of melanoma because this difference fundamentally changes the therapeutic options. Recently, characteristic fusion genes of CCS have been detected using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or direct sequencing which allowed to distinguish CCS from melanoma.

Treatment of early and multiple cutaneous unresectable recurrences is a major therapeutic problem with around 80% of patients relapsing within 5 years. For lesions refractory to elective treatments, electrochemotherapy (ECT) involving electroporation combined with antineoplastic drug treatment appears to be a new potential option.
