  • In this observational study near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was evaluated as a non-invasive monitor of impaired tissue oxygenation (StO2) after cardiac surgery. StO2, cardiac output, mixed venous oxygen saturation and mean arterial pressure were compared with lactate clearance as established measure for sufficient tissue perfusion and oxygen metabolism.

  • Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is a potent vasodilator that has been used to induce deliberate hypotension in children during surgery involving significant blood loss, including craniofacial and spinal fusion procedures. SNP metabolism liberates cyanide, which may cause interference with cellular energy metabolism, leading to metabolic acidosis and central nervous system injury.

  • Coordination compounds containing dicyanoargentate(I) have remarkable biological potential due to their therapeutic antibacterial, antifungal, antibiofilm, and anticancer properties. In this study, a new dicyanoargentate(I)- based complex was synthesized and characterized by various procedures (elemental, thermal, FT-IR for complex) involving crystal analysis of the complex. In addition, the biological activity of this new compound on the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme, an important enzyme for the nervous system, was investigated.

  • It is a common practice in bioinformatics to validate each group returned by a clustering algorithm through manual analysis, according to a-priori biological knowledge. This procedure helps finding functionally related patterns to propose hypotheses for their behavior and the biological processes involved.

  • Untargeted metabolomics datasets contain large proportions of uninformative features that can impede subsequent statistical analysis such as biomarker discovery and metabolic pathway analysis. Thus, there is a need for versatile and data-adaptive methods for filtering data prior to investigating the underlying biological phenomena.

  • Fatty liver haemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) in poultry is a non-infectious metabolic disease of unknown aetiology. An outbreak of fatty liver haemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) was detected at post mortem from 42-week old caged Vencobb broiler breeders in a commercial farm (n =1200) of Bankura, West Bengal, India. The affected flock was showing severe loss of production and sudden death in peak summer month of June with 4% mortality in a week. Post mortem of the dead birds were performed and bacteriological examination were done as per standard procedure.

  • Modern man faces a great many awful diseases and disorders which were not even known to ancient man. Dietary patterns were merely responsible for this deadly situation. Hence replacing empty calorie foods with nutritious grain-millets thus helps to reduce the burden of malnutrition and also prevents and manages modern metabolic disorders. The present study focuses on the evaluation of physicochemical, functional, textural and nutrient composition of little millet flakes. Proximate analysis of little millet flakes was evaluated by the standard procedures of AOAC.

  • For dietary status, growth, development and health, optimal feeding procedures are needed for infants and young children. In order to meet the difference in dietary demands transition foods need to be included in the diet. Diet diversity refers to all food groups being included in the diet. To assess food intake, a food intake questionnaire and a dietary recall method lasting 24 hours were used. Using the seven food groups, diet variety was calculated. ANOVA was used to compare means. Sixty infants and young children have been engaged in these studies.

  • Measurement of efficiency started with Farrell (1957) who, following Debreu (1951) and Koopmas (1951), proposed a division of efficiency into two components: technical efficiency, which represents a firm’s ability to produce a maximum level of output from a given level of inputs, and allocative efficiency, which is the ability of a firm to use inputs in optimal proportions, given their respective prices and available technology. The combination of these two measures yields the level of economic efficiency.
