Ebook "Thermophilic carboxydotrophs and their applications in biotechnology" describes the products produced by carboxydotrophic bacteria and their biotechnological applications. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a widespread pollutant and a hazard to man because of its extremely toxic nature. It is a major component of some industrial gas mixtures and may be derived from coal. The carboxydotrophic bacteria obtain energy and carbon from the oxidation of CO. These organisms may be used to produce new metabolites, and the oxidases from them may be used to produce fuel cells and biosensors for CO.

The essential oil, obtained from the aerial parts of the plant, exhibited high AChE inhibitory activity, consisting of mainly 1,8-cineol (58.89%). The antioxidant activity according to 6 complementary tests and anticholinesterase potential of the methanol extracts and triterpenoids α-amyryltetracosanoate, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, and sitosterol acetate were also investigated, and methanol extract exhibited the highest antioxidant and anticholinesterase activity, surpassing the other tested extracts and pure compounds.

The amount of viable cells increased at first (until the saturation of the culture fluid with nucleic acids), and then began to gradually decrease. The obtained results can serve as a starting point for further studies of the possibility of stimulating the primary accumulation of biomass of micromycetes by ultrasound.

This paper aimed at implementing a treatment system for polluted water with textile dyes, starting with a photocatalytic decomposition process using sunlight as a source of energy and continuing with a bacterial biodegradation process, in order to reach degradation percentages higher than those obtained using only one of the processes mentioned above. When water treatment with the dye in the combined system was over, an acute ecotoxicity test was performed to make sure that toxic metabolites were not produced due to biodegradation.

The present study was planned to develop the best fecal extraction method for progesterone metabolite assay which is based on the concentration of fecal progesterone metabolite (FPM) (5α-pregnan-3α-ol-20-one), obtained in a dried fecal sample of buffaloes. Four clinically healthy female buffaloes of the same age group 4 to 7 years were used for the collection of fecal samples maintained under isomanagerial conditions with an intensive system at the LPM Section of the IVRI institute.

Maize is considered to be the third most important cereal after rice and wheat in India. It is being cultivated worldwide in a wider range of environmental conditions, because of its greater adaptability. It is known to be affected by more than 62 diseases. Among them, turcicum leaf blight caused by Exserohilum turcicum (Pass.) Leonard and Suggs is of significant importance as it drastically reduces the yield by reducing photosynthetic activity of the plant.

Microorganisms produce certain commercially important secondary metabolites like antibiotics, carotenoid pigments, toxins and so on, some of which are of commercial importance. Carotenoid is a group of pigment and its production is a natural phenomenon in case of certain microorganisms. Yeast is a unicellular eukaryotic organism occurring in soil, air, feed and fodder of dairy farm environment. Among yeast, Rhodotorula sp. produces both extra and intracellular carotenoid pigments.

Most Bacillus species have ability to produce secondary metabolites such as amylases and biosurfactants. This study was carried out to determine the amylase and boisurfactant production potentials of some Bacillus species obtained from agricultural soil. Soil samples were collected from agricultural research farm of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. All isolates were identified based on the morphological and biochemical characteristics using Bergey’s manual of determinative bacteriology.

Diabetes is a common metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally increased plasma glucose levels. Postprandial hyperglycemia plays an essential role in development of type 2 diabetes. Inhibitors of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes such as α-amylase retard the liberation of glucose from dietary complex carbohydrates and delay the absorption of glucose. The purpose of the study was to isolate and select α-amylase inhibitor-producing endophytic fungi from wellknown medicinal plants used in the treatment for diabetes and inhabiting in Uzbekistan.

In this study, the effluent wastewater samples collected from dyestuff industrial area have been examined for biological treatment. The rate of decolorization was assessed using spectrophotometer at 508 nm and the percentage of decolorization was ascertained. The metabolites of Direct Red 81 (DR81) obtained after biodegradation were determined by HPLC. In order to improve the decolorization process, the effect of process factors like pH, temperature, agitation and dye wastewater concentration on dye decolorization was studied.

Plants synthesize secondary metabolites and some of them as well as their derivatives have antimicrobial activity such as alkaloids, flavonoids, isoflavonoids, tannins, coumarins, glucosides, terpenes and phenolic compounds. An attempt was made to evaluate the in vitro antifungal and biofumigant nature of ten different plants on suppression of mycelial growth of R. solani. Among these plant extracts at a concentration of 12.5%, total inhibition of the pathogen was obtained on PDA incorporated with leaf extracts of cabbage and garlic creeper. The extracts of leaves of sweet potato (37.

Bridelia micrantha commonly known as coastal golden leaf is a member of the family Phyllanthaceae. In preliminary studies, nine fractions, named F1- F9, were obtained by fractionating the crude methanol extract of the stem bark of Bridelia micrantha using column chromatographic techniques. The F6 fraction was found to be the most active when tested for the antibacterial activity. This study is thus aimed at investigating the effect of fractionation on antibacterial activity of F6 fraction.
