Neonatal septicemia is responsible for nearly half of neonatal deaths. With emerging drug resistance mechanisms like Metallo Beta lactamase (MBL) production, treatment of neonatal sepsis has become a challenge. The present study was done to identify prevalence of bacterial pathogens, their resistance profile and incidence of MBL mediated resistance among Gram negative bacterial isolates in neonatal sepsis. Seventy three cases of suspected neonatal septicemia were included in this prospective study. Blood culture was done by BacT/Alert 3D system, bacterial isolates were identified.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogenic bacterium responsible for both acute and chronic infection causing serious infections in patients who are mechanically ventilated individuals, who are immunocompromised, and patients with malignancies or HIV infection. The present study was undertaken with the aim to find prevalence of Metallo-β-Lactamases producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa among clinical isolates by different phenotypic confirmatory methods.

Acinetobacter species are the commonest pathogens causing nosocomial infections. Acinetobacter is essentially resistant to many antibiotics and they are known to produce extended spectrum beta lactamase and metalo beta lactamase. Aim of the study is to detect Metalo beta lactamase producing Acinetobacter spp. from clinical samples in tertiary care hospital. Between January 2015 and June 2015, total 368 Acinetobacter spp were isolated from different clinical samples.

This situation prompts early and accurate detection of MBL producers. Hence the present study was done to phenotypically evaluate the prevalence of MBL production among 235 clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (183) and Acinetobacter species (52). The antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method.

Non fermenting Gram Negative Bacilli (NFGNB) once considered as contaminants, now emerged as a major cause of life threatening nosocomial infections and as multidrug resistant pathogens. Acinetobacter species are the opportunistic pathogens with increasing prevalance in the nosocomial infections. Community acquired infections are also common in Acinetobacter. It accounts for 10% of all community-acquired bacteremic pneumonias. To isolate, identify and detect Carbapenem resistance producing Acinetobacter spp., and confirm Metallo Beta Lactamase ( MBL) production by phenotypic methods.

Resistance to carbapenems is an emerging problem among Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates. A simple and effective phenotypic detection method for carbapenemase production is required in health care settings. A total of 100 clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae from various samples were screened for imipenem resistance. The imipenem resistant strains were further tested for metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) production by imipenem combined disc test and ceftazidime combined disc test.

Carbapenem resistance has become a worldwide issue and a major reason of concern for the treating physicians. Plasmid mediated metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) as well as oxacillinases (OXA) are responsible for carbapenem resistance. Various phenotypic as well as genotypic screening methods are used for detecting carbapenemases and MBLs. The strains were first and foremost screened for carbapenem resistance by Kirby-Bauer Disc Diffusion method.

In recent decades the global emergence the development of multidrug-resistant and pan drug resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been observed. This opportunistic pathogen is responsible for causing various infections especially in the intensive care units, resulting for almost 10% of nosocomial infections. The resistance to Metallo betalactamase in P. aeruginosa strains has been related with bacterial biofilm formation. So, the aim of this study was to determine the rates of biofilm production and metallo betalactamase production (MBL) among the strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Metallo beta-lactamase (MBL) and biofilm production is the most worrisome resistant mechanisms observed in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Increased resistance of Pseudomonas to antibiotic therapy is an emerging global health concern which can be overcomed by Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Therefore this study aims to evaluate the antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of Silver nanoparticles on MBL and biofilm producing P. aeruginosa isolates using Transmission Electron microscope (TEM) and Confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) respectively. A total 40 isolates of p.

The drug resistance among the gram negative bacteria is present as a serious global problem. ESBLs and MBLs are the important members of beta-lactamases produced mainly by gram negative bacteria and are responsible for mediating resistance to extendedspectrum cephalosporins and carbapenem. These enzymes are commonly detected in the members of the Enterobacteriaceae like Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Department of Microbiology, Santosh Medical College & Hospital Ghaziabad by using K. pneumoniae isolated from sputum samples.

One of the common causes of morbidity and mortality following burn injury is infections. The emergence of metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) in Gram negative bacilli (GNB) has reduced the available therapeutic options for effective treatment. Therefore, for screening of carbapenemase producers, a simple and inexpensive testing method is essential. To know the prevalence of MBL production in various gram negative isolates, to evaluate different phenotypic methods to detect MBL production and to find out antibiotic sensitivity profile of MBL producing gram negative bacilli.

Carbapenem antibiotics are very often used against multidrug resistant strains clinically troublesome pathogens which developed and proved that the resistance and metallo-βlactamases (MBL) production were a disaster in treating infections. The identification and detection of MBL-producing bacterial strains were having crucial importance for the prevention of nosocomial infections. Therefore the present study was undertaken for screening MBL production Gram Negative bacteria.

Metallo-beta-lactmase producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains are responsible for several nosocomial outbreaks in tertiary care centres across the world. It is well known that poor outcome occurs when patients with serious infections due to MBL producing organisms are treated with antibiotics to which the organism is completely resistant. Therefore, detection of MBL producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains is crucial for optimal treatment of critically ill patients and to prevent the spread of resistance.
