Antibiotic resistance is increasingly popular together with emerging diseases presents an urgent requirement for more and more discovery of novel marine bioactive compounds. Paired-end reads of 16S rRNA sequence of bacteria living in the coral Acropora millepora obtained by the Illumina nextgeneration sequencing technology to be processed by DADA2 pipeline, phyloseq and ggplot2 packages showed that bleached coral mucus had an alpha diversity to be higher than healthy coral mucus. In the context of sources for natural products discovery are going scarcer, exploiting biotechnologically potential compounds from marine microbial symbionts is considered a relatively new trend. In our study a total of fifteen fungal strains were isolated from marine algal samples belonging to species Kappaphycus cottonii, K. striatus, Gracilaria eucheumatoides and Betaphycus gelatinus collected in Nha Trang in 2017.

The marine cyanobacterium Prochlorococcus is a critical part of warm ocean ecosystems and a model for studying microbial evolution and ecology. To expand the representation of this organism’s vast wild diversity in sequence collections, we performed a set of isolation eforts targeting low light-adapted Prochlorococcus. Three genomes resulting from this larger body of work are described here.

The development of antimicrobial resistance is of global concern, and is commonly monitored by the analysis of certain bacteria. The aim of the present study was to study the antibiotic susceptibility in isolates of Staphylococcus spp. and Escherichia (E.) coli obtained from healthy pigs originating from nineteen herds enrolled in a study on herd health management in Lira district, northern Uganda.

The main objective of this study is to investigate the potentiality of cellulase producing isolates, Bacillus licheniformis 1-1v and Bacillus sonorensis 7-1v, as microbial additives on composting of rice straw materials. Different pyramid shape piles were constructed, and each contained 80 kg of rice straw and 288 kg of cattle manure, with/without 5 kg of feldspar supplementation (0.75%, w/w). C/N ratio was adjusted to 35.8 before microbial inoculation.

Wireworms (Agriotes obscurus, Agriotes lineatus, Agriotes sordidus) are major pests of arable crops. Damage caused by these subterranean pests has increased following the withdrawal of many traditional synthetic insecticides. Wireworms are susceptible to entomopathogenic fungi belonging to the genus Metarhizium. The aim of this study was to determine if exposure of different wireworm species to sublethal doses of the insecticide spinosad altered their susceptibility to different strains of Metarhizium brunneum. Of the three wireworm species studied, A.

Pathogenesis-related proteins (PR-proteins) are induced in response to environmental stresses such as osmotic and drought stress, wounding, microbial infections and treatment with specific plant hormones and elicitors. These proteins are classified into several groups (PR-1 through PR-17) based on their amino acid sequence and biochemical functions. The present study focuses on prediction, isolation, over-expression and analysis of the antifungal activities of the thaumatin-like proteins (i.e. PR-5) in the model legume M. truncatula var. truncatula. Analysis of M.
