Ebook "Ionic liquid properties: From molten salts to RTILs" deals with ionic liquids, i.e., with single substances in their liquid state of aggregation that are dissociated into ions to a major extent. Because of the enormous amount of information that is available regarding this subject, the book does not deal with mixtures of ionic liquids nor with their solution (as electrolytes) in molecular solvents.

Ebook "Many-electron electrochemical processes: Reactions in molten salts, room-temperature ionic liquids and ionic solutions" provide a unified concept for understanding multi-electron processes in electrochemical systems such as molten salts, ionic liquids, or ionic solutions. A major advantage of this concept is its independence of assumptions like one-step many-electron transfers or ‘discrete’ discharge of complex species.

The molten salt hydrate, lithium chloride (LiCl)/urea/water has previously been shown to swell cellulose, but there has so far been no work done to explore its effect on other polysaccharides. In this paper we have investigated the solvent effects of LiCl/urea/water on four natural polysaccharides.

Performing accurate numerical simulations of molten salt reactors is challenging, especially in case of fastspectrum designs, due to the unique physics phenomena characterizing these systems. The limitations of codes traditionally used in the nuclear community often require the development of novel high-fidelity multiphysics tools to advance the design of these innovative reactors.

There is a long-standing and growing interest in Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) mainly because of their potential advantages in terms of safety, sustainable fuel cycle, and the high melting and boiling points of salt which allow operations at high temperatures and atmospheric pressure with potential merits in terms of cost

One of the first steps in developing a risk assessment model is an exhaustive search for initiating events, which is a systematic and comprehensive starting point to answer the question “what can go wrong?” for a given system design.

In this paper, we present a reduced-order modeling approach to study the Molten Salt Fast Reactor (MSFR). Our approach is nonintrusive and based on the proper orthogonal decomposition method. We include adaptivity in selecting the sampling points both in time and parameter space. Steady-state and transient analysis were both performed using the developed models.

The performance of the fusion–fission hybrid system based on the molten salt (flibe) blanket, driven by a plasma based fusion device, was analyzed by comparing transmutation scenarios of actinides extracted from the LWR (Sweden) and RBMK (Lithuania) spent nuclear fuel in the scope of the EURATOM project BRILLIANT.

Reliable mechanical valves that can withstand the corrosive and high-temperature conditions in Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) have not yet been demonstrated. In their place, freeze valves (sometimes called freeze plugs) represent a unique nuclear design solution for isolating salt flow during operations. Additionally, in some cases, they are intended to perform safety-related functions.

In addition to reduction, MB decolorization mainly results from adsorption on the surface of GdB6 based on the adsorption-desorption tests. The adsorption behavior follows the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isotherm model.

The final goal of the work is to provide useful recommendations and guidelines for the design of a cold plug for the emergency draining system of a molten salt reactor. Some numerical thermal simulations were performed with ANSYS mechanical (Finite Element Method) to be compared with results of the experiments and to make extrapolations for a new component to be used in a reactor.

A key feature of molten salt reactors is the possibility to reconfigure the fuel geometry (actively or passively driven by gravitational forces) in case of accidents. In this regard, the design of reference molten salt reactor of Generation IV International Forum, the MSFR, foresees the Emergency core Draining System (EDS).

This paper describes the neutronic benchmarks and the results obtained by the various participants of the FP7 project EVOL and the ROSATOM project MARS. The aim of the benchmarks was two-fold: first to verify and validate each of the code packages of the project partners, adapted for liquid-fueled reactors, and second to check the dependence of the core characteristics to nuclear data set for application on a molten salt fast reactor (MSFR).

The goal of this study is to demonstrate and quantify the impact that the uncertainty in thermophysical properties has on key metrics of thermal hydraulic importance for MSRs, in particular on the heat transfer coefficient. In order to achieve this, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations using the RANS k-ω SST model were compared to published experiment data on molten salt.

In this paper, modelling and simulation of a control-oriented plant-dynamics tool for the molten salt fast reactor (MSFR) is presented. The objective was to develop a simulation tool aimed at investigating the plant response to standard control transients, in order to support the system design finalization and the definition of control strategies.
