Multistage random sampling

The present study was conducted to find out the profitability of cultivation and marketing of brinjal in Kalaburagi district. Multistage random sampling design was used for selection of taulks, villages and cultivators. The study revealed that farmers incurred a total cost of 68,034 per acre of which variable costs accounted for 86.05 per cent.

Multistage sampling design was adopted to study the constraints in marketing of cattle in Beed district of Maharashtra. The study sample comprised of two cattle market 15 sellers, 15 buyers and 15 middlemen from each market were selected randomly. Jhum or shifting cultivation, which is widespread in the North East India and some parts of Orissa, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, is a primitive practice of cultivation. It involves clearing vegetative/forest cover on land/slopes of hills, drying and burning it before onset of monsoon and cropping on it thereafter. After harvesting is over, the land is left fallow and vegetation regeneration is allowed on it till the plot becomes reusable for the purpose of cultivation in a cycle.

Wild pomegranate is one of the important cash crop tree species of the mid-hill zone of western Himalayan region. A multistage random sampling technique was used for the selection of the respondents. The analysis was based on data based on survey of 50 farm households. Highest efficiency of channel-A was observed (271.73) but the volume transacted was very less (5 %) and high quality produce was traded through this channel.

A field study was undertaken to find out the shelter management practices followed by the farmers of Patan district of North Gujarat region. Five talukas were randomly selected for the study viz., Patan, Sidhpur, Chanasma, Harij and Santalpur. Three villages were selected from each taluka and from each village 10 respondents who reared buffalo either alone or mixed with cattle were selected by using a multistage random sampling technique. The analyses revealed that majority (58.00%) of the respondents were from the old age group (above 45 yrs.).

Perception is an activity through which an individual becomes aware of objects around oneself and of events taking place. The perception of the SHG members regarding the economic, social, psychological and political influence of SHGs’ activities had been analyzed with the help of a developed scaling technique. The study was conducted in three talukas of Junagadh district of Saurashtra region on the basis of maximum number of active SHGs in Junagadh district. A present study was conducted on children‟s acceptability of mid-day meal (MDM) food supplied from centralized kitchen-“akshayapatra” of medak district in Telangana state. A multistage stratified random sampling was used for selection of schools in the selected districts. Altogether, 150 children (with an equal representation of boys and girls) studying from Class I to Class VIII, belonging to 3 schools were selected with reasonable distribution of MDM that enabled evaluating food in terms of its acceptability, quantity, quality, taste, texture and flavor.

The present study was conducted during the year 2017-18 in Senapati District, Manipur. Out of total sixteen districts in the state, Senapati District was selected as it comprised of ST communities. One sub-division i.e. Mao-Maram was selected out of seven sub-division keeping in view of highest tribal population and population density. A multistage sampling procedure was followed. A sample of tribal farmers consisting 125 respondents was selected from five villages of the sub-division based on simple random sampling.

This study is based on the data collected from a sample of 120 farmers selected from amongst the selected villages within the selected markets/mandis. The whole sample design consists of multistage random sampling. The selection of the district forms the first stage in sampling. Bhiwani and Mahindergarh districts of Haryana were purposively selected to represent a case study. These markets are selected because these market were the vicinity of the research.
