  • Fe3O4 nanoparticles have been prepared by the microemulsion technique with water as the aqueous phase, n-hexane as the oil phase and Span 80 as the surfactant. The reaction occurred under air, N2 or high temperature and high pressure atmosphere. Particle size can be controlled by the concentration of the reactants dissolved in water, the ratio of water/surfactant and the atmospheric conditions.

  • Groundwater remediation by nanoparticles has become a major interest in recent years. This report presents the ability of hexavalent chromium removal in aqueous using iron (Fe0) nanoparticles. Cr(VI) is a major pollution of groundwater and more toxic than Cr(III). Fe0 reduces Cr(VI), transforming Cr(VI) to nontoxic Cr(III). At a dose of 0.2g/l iron (Feo) nanoparticles, 100% of Cr(VI) 5mg/l was removed after only 20 minutes. The Cr(VI) removal efficiency increased with decreasing initial pH.

  • We studied to prepare silver nanoparticle substrate for Surface-Enhance Raman Scattering (SERS). Silver nanoparticles were produced by laser ablation of silver plate in ethanol. The average size of silver nanoparticles is 15nm. The silver nanoparticle colloid was allowed to dry on a silicon wafer to prepare SERS substrate. Using the silver nanoparticle substrates we could obtain SERS spectrum of Rhodamine 6G molecules adsorbed on silver nanoparticles. The Raman signal was enhanced strongly by our SERS substrate.

  • The synthesis and characterization of chitosan (CS) nanoparticles used as drug carrier was reported. The formation of nanoparticles, taking place in an aqueous phase without using auxiliary toxic substances via the ionic interaction between NH3 + protonated group of CS and phosphate group of sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) was monitored in situ by combined UV-vis and pH measurements. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by TGA/DTA, XRD and TEM. The particle size, estimated by TEM, was found around 50 - 70 nm, with a quite uniform size distribution.

  • Colloidal silver nanoparticles were synthesized by Co-60 ray irradiation of Ag+ in aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as stabilizer and 0.5 M ethyl alcohol as free radical (OH• ) scavenger. The effect of Ag+ concentration which varied from 1 to 50 mM on the saturated conversion dose (D) of Ag+ into Ag determined by UV-vis spectroscopy and the size of Ag nanoparticles characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were investigated. The dependence of D (kGy) and average size (d, nm) of Ag nanoparticles on Ag+ concentration was found out to be as: D (kGy) = 0.
