  • Ebook "Thermophilic carboxydotrophs and their applications in biotechnology" describes the products produced by carboxydotrophic bacteria and their biotechnological applications. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a widespread pollutant and a hazard to man because of its extremely toxic nature. It is a major component of some industrial gas mixtures and may be derived from coal. The carboxydotrophic bacteria obtain energy and carbon from the oxidation of CO. These organisms may be used to produce new metabolites, and the oxidases from them may be used to produce fuel cells and biosensors for CO.

  • The aim of research was to develop biopolymer films based on natural polysaccharides. For the first time, biodegradable films were obtained on the basis of a furcellaran-chitosan polyelectrolyte complex. The conditions for its formation were determined by measuring the zeta potential as a function of colloid pH, the size of pure components and their mixtures.

  • Natural and synthetic derivatives that contain an indole core are being used in medical treatments and technological processes. Therefore, the development of new synthetic methods for the synthesis of indole derivatives is very popular. In this study, new oxindoles with reaction of 4,7-dihydro-1H -indole (2) and isatin (4) were synthesized as analogs of natural product 3,3′ -bis(indolyl)oxindole.

  • A series of cholesterol and based hydrophobic urea and thiourea compounds were synthesized and successfully used as a cocatalyst for L-proline catalyzed aldol reactions in the presence of water. The anticonfigured products were obtained with good yields (up to 94%), high diastereoselectivities (up to 95:5), and high enantiomeric excesses (up to 93% ee). The successful results for catalytic efficiency of L-proline in the presence of water reveal the importance of the hydrophobic nature of cholesterol and diosgenin parts of thiourea on the reactivity and selectivity in the presence of water.

  • Herein, we proposed several mechanistic scenarios for activation of small molecules (NH3, CO2, CS2, H2, CH4, N2, and N2O) by a disilicon analogue of a vinyl anion (1H) using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The DFT results established that all the possible reactions to yield a variety of potential products have an exergonic nature except for the activation of N2 with the obtained overall energy of ∆G = 33.6 kcal mol−1. Moreover, the highest exergonic character was ∆G = −95.8 kcal mol−1 for N2O.

  • The HD-LBP–treated rats had high levels of SOD and low levels of MDA in their serum samples. Moreover, HD-LBP and drug-treated groups had a high number of SER receptors and BDNF-positive cells and a low number of TUNEL-positive cells in their hippocampal brain tissues. The HD-LBP treatments decrease anxious behavior by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities, hippocampal SER and BDNF neurotransmitter levels and decreasing the TUNEL-positive cell count of ovariectomized rats.

  • Herbal tea is often combined to create delicious taste with unique flavours and mainly enjoyed as a natural caffeine-free alternative to standard teas. In the present study, curry leaves based herbal tea were developed with the combination of moringa, amla, ginger, celery and sweet basil. The selected spices and herbs were subjected to drying conditions to obtain maximum retention of bioactive compounds. All the selected spices and herbs were dried by cabinet tray drying method to attain a brittle texture for easy blending. The herbal combination developed was packed as dip tea bags.

  • Fermentation is a complicated process which depends on a variety of conditions. In order to gain high fermentation efficiency with a low level of toxins and impurities to obtain good products, it is essential to determine suitable conditions for the process. Within the scope of this study, the effects of some key conditions was estimated (i.e. pH, temperature, SO2 level in fermentation broth, the inoculation rates of yeast cells, sugar level) for the fermentation of corn with Saccharomyces cerevisiae MS42.
