Neighboring farmers

This study was carried out to assess the knowledge and perception of vegetable growers regarding the appropriate knowledge on safe handling and proper use of pesticides. The results revealed that farmers’ choices of pesticides was strongly influenced by both authorized pesticide dealers and neighboring farmers.

Propagating information about materialized views: When a query is posed, the first step is to consider whether it can be answered using the data at “nearby” storage providers, and to evaluate the costs of doing so. This requires the query initiator to be aware of existing materialized views and properties such as location and data freshness. One direction we are exploring is to propagate information about materialized views using techniques derived from routing protocols [14]. In particular, a node advertises its materialized views to its neighbors.

Zimbabwe continues to be among the least competitive economies in the World. According to the World Bank 2011―Doing Business Survey‖ Zimbabwe ranked 157 out of 183 countries in the world, a move up of two positions compared with the 2009 report. Its ranking however is still well below those of neighboring countries such as South Africa (34), Namibia (69), and Botswana (52) (Figure 2).

Organic crops must be protected from potential contamination by adjoining conventional farms, as well as from non-organic fields in split operations. The drift and run-off of prohibited substances, as well as the pollen drift from GMO varieties, can compromise the farm’s organic certification status. The certifying agency can require water, soil, and plant testing in cases where contamination is suspected.
