Applying machine learning method in neutron and gamma identification according to their pulse shapes
Neutron and gamma’s time of flight from a Cf252 source have been measured to identify them accordingly. Their pulse shape characteristics measured by EJ-299-33 scintillator were used to train an artificial neural network (ANN) in a machine learning method.

The sensitivity of an active fast neutron assay system for the measurement of 235U enrichment in small samples of low-enriched triuranium octoxide (U3O8) is described. The system comprises four organic liquid scintillation detectors in a polyethylene container in which a stimulating americium-lithium neutron source is placed below the sample to be interrogated.

This paper summarizes the results of an intercomparison on the use of the ICRP Reference Computational Phantoms with radiation transport codes, which was organized by EURADOS working group 6. Three exercises are described: exposure to an anterior-posterior (AP) photon point source, exposure to an AP neutron point source, and exposure to two typical medical X-ray examinations.

This paper presents the design and validation of a neutron survey meter. The meter consists of a PRESCILA neutron probe (with good sensitivity, directional response, gamma rejection, and enhanced high-energy response to 20 MeV) and an electrometer developed at Non-Destructive Evaluation center. The homogeneity response of the PRESCILA neutron probe was investigated as a function of distances from the source in order to obtain the appropriate distance for accurate count-rate measurements using the neutron survey meter.

Dosimetric quantities at various distances from a 30 cm diameter polyethylene sphere moderated 241Am-Be source were investigated using the Bonner sphere spectrometer system. The different international commercial unfolding codes were applied to unfold the neutron spectrum, and their shapes were compared to each other. Additionally, the integrated neutron fluence rates overall spectrum and fractional neutron fluence rates were deduced and compared between the results obtained from different unfolding codes.

BornAgain is a free and open-source multi-platform software framework for simulating and fitting X-ray and neutron reflectometry, off-specular scattering, and grazing-incidence small-angle scattering (GISAS). This paper concentrates on GISAS. Support for reflectometry and off-specular scattering has been added more recently, is still under intense development and will be described in a later publication. BornAgain supports neutron polarization and magnetic scattering. Users can define sample and instrument models through Python scripting.

Mictrorons are accelerators of electrons and are simultaneous sources of bremsstrahlung photon flux and fission neutrons. In 1982, a microtron of seventeen trajectories Microtron MT - 17 was put into operation at the National Institute of Physics of Vietnam. Though very modest, microtons are very useful for developing countries such as Vietnam in both fundamental and applied physics research. During the recent years by using the above mentioned MT - 17 and microtrons from other institutes we have carried out different investigations.

We present the beam dynamics and electromagnetic studies of a 3 MeV, 325 MHz H radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator for the proposed Indian Spallation Neutron Source project. We have followed a design approach, where the emittance growth and the losses are minimized by keeping the tune depression ratio larger than 0.5.

This paper presents the development of simulated workplace neutron standard fields at the Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology with the 241Am-Be source moderated by polyethylene spheres with diameters of 15 cm and 30cm. The characterization of the standard fields (in terms of neutron fluence rates and neutron ambient dose equivalent rates) was performed using Bonner sphere spectrometer system together with MAXED and FRUIT unfolding codes.

The ability discrimination of neutrons/gamma-rays of the detector was evaluated by the charge comparison (CC) method using an 252Cf source. The total efficiencies when measured on 22Na, 137Cs, 60Co and 252Cf sources were obtained 17.8%, 3.9%, 9.8% and 14.8%, respectively. The Figure of Merit (FoM) values of CC method were 0.4–1.55 for the range of energy 50–1000 keVee (keV electron equivalent).
