Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is a key therapeutic target for developing new Alzheimer's disease (AD) treatments due to its regulatory function in acetylcholine hydrolysis. This research contributed to the development of a novel scaffold for AChE inhibitors, which are potential drugs for treating AD.

Regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins are gatekeepers regulating the cellular responses induced by G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-mediated activation of heterotrimeric G proteins. Specifically, RGS proteins determine the magnitude and duration of GPCR signaling by acting as a GTPase-activating protein for Gα subunits, an activity facilitated by their semiconserved RGS domain. The R7 subfamily of RGS proteins is distinguished by two unique domains, DEP/DHEX and GGL, which mediate membrane targeting and stability of these proteins.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a clinically important liver disease with limited therapeutic options in a significant proportion of patients. Therefore, novel efficient therapeutic agents are needed. Because the 5¢- and 3¢-untranslated regions (UTRs) of HCV are highly conserved and functionally important for HCV replication, they are attractive targets for RNA-cleaving ribozymes or small interfering RNAs (siRNAs).
