In this paper, two meta-heuristic approaches, Differential evolution and Genetic algorithms were proposed to solve this problem. The optimal objectives are both the maximization of the length and the minimization of power peaking factor in a fuel cycle.

Disposal of spent nuclear fuel is a major political and public-perception problem for nuclear energy. From a radiological standpoint, the long-lived component of spent nuclear fuel primarily consists of transuranic (TRU) isotopes.

Full recycling of transuranic (TRU) isotopes can in theory lead to a reduction in repository radiotoxicity to reference levels in as little as ~500 years provided reprocessing and fuel fabrication losses are limited. However, over a limited timeframe, the radiotoxicity of the ‘final’ core can dominate over reprocessing losses, leading to a much lower reduction in radiotoxicity compared to that achievable at equilibrium.

There is a long-standing and growing interest in Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) mainly because of their potential advantages in terms of safety, sustainable fuel cycle, and the high melting and boiling points of salt which allow operations at high temperatures and atmospheric pressure with potential merits in terms of cost

In Part I of this paper, we optimized the CANDU-6 adjuster rods for reactors burning thorium-based fuel. Here we modify the liquid zone controllers assuming optimized adjuster rods for the same advanced cycles. The objective is to maximize the average exit burnup for these fuel cycles while preserving the reactor ability to control the power distribution inside the core during normal operation conditions.

The assessment in this paper is necessary to demonstrate that sufficient decay heat conservatism is retained in the UNF-ST&DARDS bounding as-loaded spent fuel analysis methodology. This paper also demonstrates the time dependent impact of various parameters such as last cycle power on decay heat values.

A comparison between stochastic and deterministic depletion calculations based on a graphite-filled MOX fuel assembly configuration is presented in this paper. The infinite multiplication factors and isotope inventory changes as a function of burnup obtained by Monte Carlo method module SCALE/KENO and deterministic method module SCALE/NEWT are compared with those obtained by deterministic code HELIOS. The impact in calculation results by using different nuclear data library is also investigated.

This paper shows basic features of different fuel assembly (FA) application for VVER-1000 in a closed fuel cycle based on REMIX-technology. This investigation shows how the change in the water–fuel ratio in the VVER FA affects on the fuel characteristics produced by REMIX technology during multiple recycling.

Iran's interest in nuclear technology dates to the 1950s, when the Shah of Iran received technical assistance under the U.S. Atoms for Peace program. While this assistance ended with the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Iran remained interested in nuclear technology and developed an extensive nuclear fuel cycle, including sophisticated enrichment capabilities, which became the subject of intense international negotiations and sanctions between 2002 and 2015.

Study of nuclear fuel cycle in Vietnam at the aspect of domestic production, the exploitation and process of uranium ore were began. These processes generated large amounts of radioactive waste overtiming. The naturally occurring radioactive material and technologically enhanced radioactive material (NORM/TENORM) waste, which would be large, needs to be managed and disposed reasonably by effective methods.
