During severe accidents at Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs), fuel-coolant interaction (FCI) is a critical event in which the melt released from the core region comes into contact with the coolant. The melt may eject in the form of a melt jet and threaten the integrity of the NPP.

Performing accurate numerical simulations of molten salt reactors is challenging, especially in case of fastspectrum designs, due to the unique physics phenomena characterizing these systems. The limitations of codes traditionally used in the nuclear community often require the development of novel high-fidelity multiphysics tools to advance the design of these innovative reactors.

In this paper, we describe the phenomena identification and ranking tables (PIRT) prepared as an international collaboration for uncontrolled SGTR in connection with core damage. This PIRT is limited to fissionproduct transport and retention in the steam generator and release to the auxiliary building, i.e., the source term.

Nuclear fuel claddings can balloon and rupture at high temperatures under internal gas pressure in case of design basis accidents like loss-of-coolant-accident (LOCA). The thermal phenomena surrounding the ballooning and cracking was investigated in a series of experiments performed using zirconium alloy cladding tubes at the Centre for Energy Research in Hungary.

For advanced research reactor designs that have a high core power with downward coolant flow in the core, it is important to analyze a unique postulated pipe break scenario under sub-atmospheric pressures. In order to benchmark the capability of thermal–hydraulic codes such as TRACE to predict flow behavior under these conditions, we must first compare TRACE analyses to reference experimental data for air–water flow near atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions.

In order to investigate hydrodynamic phenomena in two-phase flow conditions in nuclear safety analysis, a series of two-phase flow experiments were conducted using a single flow channel in which air and water were simultaneously injected into the test section. The experiments under atmospheric pressure conditions were carried out with the water velocity and the air velocity covering the ranges from 0.2 to 1.5 m/s and 0.05 to 0.2 m/s, respectively.

The goal of the simulation strategies is to model complex multi-physics and multi-scale phenomena specific to nuclear reactors. The use of machine learning combined with such advanced simulation tools is also demonstrated to be capable of providing useful information for the detection of anomalies during operation.

Autoimmune diseases occur in 3–5% of the population as a result of myriad of genetic and environmental factors that lead to altered immune reactivity. The alterations in the immune system initiated by a loss of immunological tolerance to self-antigens lead to the development of autoreactive phenomena that can be detected in the peripheral blood. The present study was undertaken to detect the Extractable Nuclear Antibodies present in the study population. This study was conducted for a period of 1 year in 100 patients attending Rheumatology department.

By expanding the calculations we investigated a four-nucleon model of the nucleus which takes into account the delta meson. The main results show that without the addition of Goguta-Bodmer, the expected compression value is still obtained, and the slope and curvature of the symmetrical energy are also consistent with the experiment.

Based on the extended Nambu-Jona–Lasinio (NJL) model with the scalar-vector eightpoint interaction [15], we consider what ultimately happens to exact chiral nuclear matter as it is heated. In the realm of very high temperature the fundamental degrees of freedom of the strong interaction, quarks and gluons, come into play and a transition from nuclear matter consisting of confined baryons and mesons to a state with ‘liberated’ quarks and gluons is expected.

The main purpose of the current study is to understand the three-dimensional complex flow phenomena in a wire-wrapped fuel assembly to support the license issue for the core design. Computational fluid dynamics results show good agreement with friction factor correlation models. The secondary flow in the corner and edge subchannels is much stronger than that in an interior subchannel. The axial velocity averaged in the corner and edge subchannels is higher than that averaged in the interior subchannels.

The aim of this work is to simulate the thermohydraulic consequences of a main steam line break and to compare the obtained results with Rossendorf Coolant Mixing Model (ROCOM) 1.1 experimental results. The objective is to utilize data from steady-state mixing experiments and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations to determine the flow distribution and the effect of thermal mixing phenomena in the primary loops for the improvement of normal operation conditions and structural integrity assessment of pressurized water reactors.
