Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) is the most common infectious cause of blindness and bacterial sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Ct strain-specific differences in clinical trachoma suggest that genetic polymorphisms in Ct may contribute to the observed variability in severity of clinical disease.

Syphilis is an infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. Patients with syphilis can present with a wide range of symptoms depending on the stage of disease. An underappreciated manifestation of syphilis is ocular involvement, which has been increasingly reported in the last several years.

We present a case of fungal keratitis caused by Scedosporium apiospermum, which is a rare agent. Case description A 34-year-old Caucasian male patient was admitted to our clinic with complaints of pain and blurred vision in the left eye. The patient had a history of wearing contact lenses for 3 years.

Distichiasis, an ocular disorder in which aberrant cilia (eyelashes) grow from the opening of the Meibomian glands of the eyelid, has been reported in Friesian horses. These misplaced cilia can cause discomfort, chronic keratitis, and corneal ulceration, potentially impacting vision due to corneal fibrosis, or, if secondary infection occurs, may lead to loss of the eye.

Tuberculosis is a systemic disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis killing up to 3 million people in the world every year. Nigeria is ranked as number ten among twenty-two high burden countries in the world. Ocular involvement is an extrapulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis which has become more common with the advent of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.

Eye is a complex and sensitive organ and is therefore more vulnerable to trauma and various infections. Indian population is vulnerable to infections of eye by virtue of subtropical climate, trauma and iatrogenic procedures. Infectious endophthalmitis is a threatening and potentially devastating intra ocular infection caused by an array of organisms.

The purpose of this case report is to describe a conjunctiva and eyelid Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) as the initial manifestation of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which led to the diagnosis of HIV infection. There are only 3 reported cases of ocular KS as an initial manifestation of HIV infection.

Acinetobacter baumannii is a bacterial species capable of provoking several clinical manifestations and possessing several mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, besides adapting to adverse situations, thus enabling its permanence in health centers. The broad spectrum of infections caused by this species also includes eye infections, which may lead to a serious clinical outcome depending on the circumstances. Endophthalmitis is one of the most serious complications amongst ophthalmological infections, which can be caused by fungi and bacteria.

Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) is a common pathogen in ocular infection. Mutations contribute to drug resistance. We intended to identify mutations in genes within the quinolone resistance determining region (QRDR) of fluoroquinolone-resistant S. epidermidis ocular isolates and to study their phenotypic and genotypic correlation. A total of 50 phenotypically fluoroquinolones-resistant S. epidermidis isolates were studied. Fluoroquinolones susceptibility was evaluated by Kirby- Bauer disk diffusion method.

Coccidioidomycosis a zoonotic fungal infection caused by the dimorphic fungus Coccidioides immitis acquiring from environment through the risk of exposure to infectious arthrospores with subclinical or clinical which is affecting the dogs reared in house with less exposure to sun. The present report describes the disseminated form of coccidiomycosis in Labrador dogs which affected the cutaneous, osseous, cardiac, ocular, nervous system, or other organ with variable clinical symptoms and so far not recorded in this Cauvery Delta region of Tamilnadu.

Antimicrobial resistance has made its niche in diverse animal pathogens including protozoa especially in emerging and re-emerging zoonotic pathogens, thus act as one of the most formidable enemy of the society. The study was aimed to document the prevailing antibacterial resistance profile of bacterial isolates from clinical samples (uterine discharge, mastitic milk, direct swabs from throat, nasal and ocular infection) of different animal species (bovine, caprine, canine and poultry).

F-1 and LaSota strains of NDV were propagated in laboratory using 10-day old embryonated hen eggs via allantoic cavity route. One group of thirty chicks were infected with F-1strain and other with LaSota strain with 105 egg infective doses in 100 µl of virus via oral and ocular route. Sequential sera samples and tracheal samples at day 0, 3,7,14, 21 and 28 post infection were collected and titre of antibodies indicative of humoral immune response was determined by indirect ELISA.

Corneal blindness is responsible for 1.5 to 2 million new cases of monocular blindness every year in which ocular trauma and corneal ulceration are significant contributors. Corneal infections of fungal etiology are common in India (19-45%). Aspergillus (16– 53%) and Fusarium (10–45%) species are the common pathogens. Purpose: 1.To Identify and isolate the various fungi causing fungal keratitis. 2. To know the usefulness of Gram stain, KOH wet mount and fungal culture in identification of fungi. Materials and Methods: After taking written and informed consent taken.

The eye may be infected from external sources or through intraocular invasion of microorganisms carried by the blood stream. The common eye infections caused by bacterial and fungal pathogens are blepharitis, conjunctivitis, internal and external hordeolum, keratitis, dacryocystitis. Timely institution of appropriate therapy must be initiated to control the infections and thereby minimize the ocular morbidity.

The transcription factor p63 plays a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of epithelial tissues, including the ocular surface. In an effort to gain insight into the pathogenesis of keratitis caused by HSV-1, we determined the expression patterns of the p63 and Bax proteins in the Staatens Seruminstitute Rabbit Cornea cell line (SIRC). Methods: SIRC cells were infected with HSV-1 at various multiplicities and maintained for different periods of time. Virus replication was measured by indirect immunofluorescence assay and Western blot analysis.
