Thyroid cancer (TC) is one of the most common endocrine malignancies, and its morbidity continues to rise. N6 -methyladenosine (m6 A) RNA methylation, an epigenetic modification, is an important regulator of gene expression in TC.

The patient was admitted and operated the same day, the abscess was opened and drained and bowel resection was performed with colostomy creation. The postoperative recovery was uneventful and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 10. Due to the high morbidity/mortality in cases of colon cancer emergencies, Hartman’s procedure is often a reasonable option.

Cardiopulmonary bypass-related myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury is a major contributor to post‑ operative morbidity. Although transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been found to have cardiopro‑ tective effects in animal studies and healthy volunteers, its effects on cardiac surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass patients have not been evaluated.

Perioperative hyperglycemia and its associated increase in morbidity and mortality have been well studied in the critical care and cardiac surgery literature. However, there is little data regarding the impact of intraoperative hyperglycemia on post-operative infectious complications in non-cardiac surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery has become a standard of care for many gynecological surgeries due to its lower morbidity, pain and cost compared to open techniques. Unfortunately, the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) to insufflate the abdomen is the main contributor to post-operative shoulder pain.

Early extubation after liver transplantation is safe and accelerates patient recovery. Patients with endstage liver disease undergo sarcopenic changes, and sarcopenia is associated with postoperative morbidity and mortality. We investigated the impact of core muscle mass on the feasibility of immediate extubation in the operating room (OR) after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT).

Goal Directed Fluid Therapy (GDFT) represents an objective fluid replacement algorithm. The effect of provider variability remains a confounder. Overhydration worsens perioperative morbidity and mortality; therefore, the impact of the calculated NPO deficit prior to the operating room may reach harm.

Patients who have breast cancer surgery are at risk of axillary web syndrome (AWS), an underrecognized postsurgical complication which can result in shoulder morbidity and functional impairment. Emerging studies have indicated that AWS may persist beyond the first few months after surgery, although few studies have assessed the prevalence and association of AWS beyond a year after diagnosis.

Surgical resection remains the only curative treatment for pancreatic cancer and is associated with significant post-operative morbidity and mortality. Patients eligible for surgery, increasingly receive neo-adjuvant therapy before surgery or adjuvant therapy afterward, inherently exposing them to toxicity.

Estimating the risk of malignancy is essential in the management of adnexal masses. An accurate differential diagnosis between benign and malignant masses will reduce morbidity and costs due to unnecessary operations, and will improve referral to a gynecologic oncologist for specialized cancer care, which improves outcome and overall survival.

In 2014 approximately 21,200 patients were diagnosed with oesophageal and gastric cancer in England and Wales, of whom 37 % underwent planned curative treatments. Potentially curative surgical resection is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. For operable locally advanced disease, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) improves survival over surgery alone.

Surgical site infection(SSI) is among the most common causes of nosocomial infections in the literature. SSI increases the financial burden, length of hospital stays and significant morbidity and mortality of the patient. These infections have a tremendous impact on morbidity and mortality as SSIs doubled the patient’s risk of death after surgery Therefore despite all recent advances, SSI still continue to be a major problem in the hospitals even with all available modern facilities.

Surgical site infections pose a major threat to the morbidity of immunosuppressed patients. They lead to increased hospital stay, delayed recovery, increased treatment cost and a high risk of spread of Nosocomial infections. The present study was conducted to identify the post-operative wound infection rate, to isolate and identify the bacterial pathogens and to determine its antibiotic susceptibility pattern. Total 70 pus samples were collected from patients having post-operative wound infections out of 716 operations performed during January to December, 2016.

Post-operative wound infection is an important cause of morbidity and cost burden for the patients. Surveillance of these data is an important foundation of effective infection control programs. To determine the prevalence of MRSA among Staphylococcus aureus isolates. A prospective study done in a trust hospital in 2015 for about a year. A total number of 86 isolates were obtained from 120 wound swabs.
