We investigate the dynamical of pulse propagation and all-optical switching via a spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) in a three-level ladder-type atomic medium driven by a coupling field under the presence of incoherent pumping. Results show that the SGC causes modulations at the leading edge of the pulse envelope shape.

In the present investigation, some novel S-(5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)2-chloroethanethioate (3a–3e) derivatives were synthesized and their impact on optical properties was studied. They have also been characterized by elemental analysis and various spectroscopic methods including FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and UV-Vis techniques. The nonlinear refractive indexes of 3a–3e were also measured in dichloromethane via Z-scan method using a continuous wave diode-pumped laser at 532 nm wavelength. The nonlinear refractive coefficient of compounds was obtained from 1011 m2/W order.

As a result, octave spanning of the SC spectrum was achieved in the wavelength range of near-IR from 1.25 µm to 2.3 µm with 90 fs pulse and energy of 1.5 nJ at a pump wavelength of 1.55 µm. The proposed fibers are fully compatible with all-silica fiber systems, in particular, could be used for all-fiber SC sources and new low-cost all-fiber optical systems.

The semiconductor diode laser chips AlGaAs of the matrix structure (linear bars arrays structure), having an output opticalpower of 2W were packaged at the semiconductor laser labrotary - Institute of Materials Science. We have studied some its properties such as: the temperature dependence of laser threshold, output optical power; the transfer heat of laser chip and pump current of laser. The study of spectral structure showed that the operating wavelength area of laser and structure of the longitudinal multimode depend on temperature and pump current.

A diode-pumped solid-state (DPSSL) laser system with 808 nm laser as pump source has been developed successfully. We used the optically anisotropic crystal Nd:YVO4 as the active medium. The threshold pump power and slope efficiency were measured and discussed. With lowly doped crystal Nd:YVO4 0.27% and concave-plane cavity, the laser showed good performance in the pumping range up to 11 W. Using the 1064 nm beam, micromachining were successfully conducted upon some normal materials such as plastic, wood; some semiconductors such as silicon and metals such as aluminum, copper, steel.

Although inelastic scattering of light from molecules, a phenomenon now known as Raman scattering, was observed by C. V. Raman in 1928, the nonlinear phenomenon of stimulated Raman scattering was not demonstrated until 1962. Soon after low-loss silica fibers became available around 1970, Roger Stolen and coworkers used stimulated Raman scattering in such fibers not only for amplification of optical signals but also for constructing fiber-based Raman lasers.
