In this paper, we propose a multilayer neural network model for generating SpamAssassin rules which selects good features and optimize rule weights at the same time. The weighted rule set obtained from training this neural network can be applied directly in SpamAssassin. The experiments showed that our network is fast to train and the resulted rule set has comparable detection rates to previous rule generation methods.

Electronic structures of a series of three homodinuclear platinum(II), palladium(II) and gold(I) complexes featuring Janus-type benzoxazolin-2-ylidene bridges and N,N-diisopropyl benzimidazolin-2-ylidene auxiliary ligands have been investigated. We investigate the problem of domain adaptation for parallel data in Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). While techniques for domain adaptation of monolingual data can be borrowed for parallel data, we explore conceptual differences between translation model and language model domain adaptation and their effect on performance, such as the fact that translation models typically consist of several features that have different characteristics and can be optimized separately.

We present a model for sentence compression that uses a discriminative largemargin learning framework coupled with a novel feature set defined on compressed bigrams as well as deep syntactic representations provided by auxiliary dependency and phrase-structure parsers. The parsers are trained out-of-domain and contain a significant amount of noise. We argue that the discriminative nature of the learning algorithm allows the model to learn weights relative to any noise in the feature set to optimize compression accuracy directly.

The talk proceeds as follows: (1) we summarize OT and its applications to UG. The we present (2) learning and (3) parsing algorithms for OT. Finally, (4) we show how crucial elements of OT emerge from connectionism, and discuss the one central feature of OT which so far eludes connectionist explanation. In this paper we present a novel approach for inducing word alignments from sentence aligned data. We use a Conditional Random Field (CRF), a discriminative model, which is estimated on a small supervised training set. The CRF is conditioned on both the source and target texts, and thus allows for the use of arbitrary and overlapping features over these data. Moreover, the CRF has efficient training and decoding processes which both find globally optimal solutions.
