Point mutations can have a strong impact on protein stability. A change in stability may subsequently lead to dysfunction and finally cause diseases. Moreover, protein engineering approaches aim to deliberately modify protein properties, where stability is a major constraint. In order to support basic research and protein design tasks, several computational tools for predicting the change in stability upon mutations have been developed.

Memristor is a non-linear circuit element in which voltage-current relationship is determined by the previous values of the voltage and current, generally the history of the circuit. The nonlinearity in this component can be considered as a fractional-order form, which yields a fractional memristor (fracmemristor). In this paper, a fractional-order memristor in a chaotic oscillator is applied, while the other electronic elements are of integer order. The fractional-order range is determined in a way that the circuit has chaotic solutions.

The moment method in statistical dynamics is used to study the equation of state and thermodynamic properties of the bcc metals taking into account the anharmonicity effects of the lattice vibrations and hydrostatic pressures. The explicit expressions of the lattice constant, thermal expansion coefficient, and the specific heats of the bcc metals are derived within the fourth order moment approximation.

Mapping of soil properties is an important operation as it plays an important role in the knowledge about soil properties and how it can be used sustainably. The study was carried out in a Bastar district, Chhattisgarh state, India in order to map out some soil characteristics and assess their variability within the area. Samples were collected from the 4 sampling sites, Kesloor and Raikot (NH-16), Adawal and Nagarnar (NH-43) in Jagdalpur.

A new generalization of the Lindley distribution is recently proposed by Ghitany et al. [1], called as the power Lindley distribution. Another generalization of the Lindley distribution was introduced by Nadarajah et al. [2], named as the generalized Lindley distribution. This paper proposes a more generalization of the Lindley distribution which generalizes the two. We refer to this new generalization as the exponentiated power Lindley distribution.

This paper proposes a learning method of translation rules from parallel corpora. This method applies the maximum entropy principle to a probabilistic model of translation rules. First, we define feature functions which express statistical properties of this model. Next, in order to optimize the model, the system iterates following steps: (1) selects a feature function which maximizes loglikelihood, and (2) adds this function to the model incrementally.

It is based on lecture notes that I have developed during the period 1997-2003 for the first semester econometrics course “Introduction to Econometrics” in the core of the Ph.D. program in economics at the Pennsylvania State University. Initially these lecture notes were written as a companion to Gallant’s (1997) textbook, but have been developed gradually into an alternative textbook.
