Pancreatic tumors

Solid pseudopapillary tumors (SPTs) of the pancreas is a low-grade malignant tumor, accounting for only 1–2.5% of all pancreatic tumors. In particular, small (≤ 3 cm) SPTs do not often have typical computed tomography (CT) features, making them easily misdiagnosed with other solid tumors and eventually affecting the choice of treatment method.

To evaluate the surgical outcomes of solid pseudopapillary neoplasms (SPNs) of the pancreas in children at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital. Methods: This study was a descriptive case series that retrospectively analyzed 26 patients diagnosed with pancreatic SPNs who underwent surgical treatment at the National Children's Hospital between January 2021 and May 2024.

Pancreatic diseases is very multiform and complex, in which pancreatic tumors have often poor prognosis, especially pancreatic cancer. Early detection and diagnosis of pancreatic tumors have great significance in improving the quality of treatment and prognosis for patients. Endoscopic ultrasound has the advantage of high-frequency ultrasound, an optimal approach to provide a possibility of EUS-FNA.

Laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy (LLLS) is indicated for liver tumors which locate in easily accessible locations (left lateral section, left lobe, ...), with small sizes,... Feasibility, safety also depend on surgeon skills, equipments. Objectives: Evaluate short-term outcomes of LLLS to treat hepatocellular carcinoma.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), one of the most lethal malignancies, is increasing in incidence. However, the stromal reaction pathophysiology and its role in PDAC development remain unknown. We, therefore, investigated the potential role of histological chronic pancreatitis findings and chronic inflammation on surgical PDAC specimens and disease-specific survival (DSS).

Amylin-mediated isletb-cell death is implicated in diabetogenesis. We pre-viously reported that fibrillogenic human amylin (hA) evokesb-cell apopto-sis through linked activation of Jun N-terminal kinase 1 (JNK 1) and a caspase cascade. Here we show that p38 kinase [p38 mitogen-activated pro-tein (MAP) kinase] became activated by hA treatment of cultured b-cells whereas extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) did not;

Human amylin is a small fibrillogenic protein that is the major constituent of pancreatic islet amyloid, which occurs in most subjects with type 2 dia-betes. There is evidence that it can elicitin vitro apoptosis in isletb-cells, but the physical properties that underpin its cytotoxicity have not been clearly elucidated.

The crystal structure of human pancreatic cationic trypsin showed the chemical modification of Tyr154, which was originally described as phos-phorylation [Gaboriaud C, Serre L, Guy-Crotte O, Forest E & Fontecilla-Camps JC (1996)J Mol Biol259, 995–1010]. Here we report that Tyr154 is sulfated, not phosphorylated.

Chromosomal rearrangements apparently account for the presence of a pri-mate-specific gene (protease serine 3) in chromosome 9. This gene encodes, as the result of alternative splicing, both mesotrypsinogen and trypsino-gen 4. Whereas mesotrypsinogen is known to be a pancreatic protease, neither the chemical nature nor biological function of trypsinogen 4 has been explored previously.

The ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channel couples glucose metabolism to insulin secretion in pancreatic b-cells. It comprises regulatory sulfonyl-urea receptor 1 and pore-forming Kir6.2 subunits. Binding and⁄or hydro-lysis of Mg-nucleotides at the nucleotide-binding domains of sulfonylurea receptor 1 stimulates channel opening and leads to membrane hyperpolari-zation and inhibition of insulin secretion.

Expression of the tumor suppressor p16 INK4a after stable transfection can restore the susceptibility of epithelial tumor cells to anoikis. This property is linked to increases in the expression and cell-surface presence of the fibronectin receptor. Considering its glycan chains as pivotal signals, we assumed an effect of p16 INK4a on glycosylation.

Trypsinogen-1 and -2 are well-characterized enzymes that are expressed in the pancreas and also in several other tissues. Many cancers produce tryp-sinogen isoenzymes that differ from the pancreatic ones with respect to substrate specificity and isoelectric point.

Traditionally, the canine pancreatic endoplasmic reticulum (ER) has been the workhorse for cell-free studies on protein transport into the mamma-lian ER. These studies have revealed multiple roles for the major ER-lumi-nal heat shock protein (Hsp) 70, IgG heavy chain-binding protein (BiP), at least one of which also involves the second ER-luminal Hsp70, glucose-reg-ulated protein (Grp) 170.

The tumor suppressor p16 INK4a has functions beyond cell-cycle control via cyclin-dependent kinases. A coordinated remodeling ofN- and O-glycosyla-tion, and an increase in the presentation of the endogenous lectin galectin-1 sensing these changes on the surface of p16 INK4a -expressing pancreatic carcinoma cells (Capan-1), lead to potent pro-anoikis signals.

Onconase (ONC) is an amphibian member of the pancreatic ribonuclease superfamily that is selectively toxic to tumor cells. It is a much less efficient enzyme than the archetypal ribonuclease A and, in an attempt to gain fur-ther insight, we report the first atomic resolution crystal structure of ONC, determined in complex with sulfate ions at 100 K.

Neither randomized clinical trials nor meta- analysis are available and evidence is based on a number of retrospective studies with multivariate for mortality risk factors or data from national cancer registries (Gilliland et al., 1997; Hundahl et al., 1998). Unfortunately, very remarkable differences in patient’s selection, staging systems, and clinical management affect the available studies. In particular, radioiodine treatment is not routinely carried out in a standard manner and outcome results of different studies are thus not comparable (Sciuto et al., 2009).

Accurate statistics on cancer occurrence and outcome are essential both for the purposes of research and for planning and evaluation programmes for cancer control (Parkin, 2006). Although tumours of thyroid account for only 1% of the overall human cancer burden, they represent the most common malignancies of the endocrine system and pose a significant challenge to pathologists, surgeons and endocrinologists. Among epithelial tumors, carcinomas of follicular cell origin far outnumber those of C-cell origin.
