Leishmania parasites express various essential proteins in different growth phases (logarithmic/ stationary) and forms (promastigote/amastigote). Targeting the genes encoding such proteins paves the way for controlling these parasites. Centrin is an essential gene, which its protein product seems to be vital for the proliferation of Leishmania parasites.

Neonatal diarrhea remains one of the main causes of morbi-mortality in dairy calves under artificial rearing. It is often caused by infectious agents of viral, bacterial, or parasitic origin. Cows vaccination and colostrum intake by calves during the first 6 h of life are critical strategies to prevent severe diarrhea but these are still insufficient.

Genome editing of malaria parasites is key to the generation of live attenuated parasites used in experimental vaccination approaches. DNA repair in Plasmodium generally occurs only through homologous recombination. This has been used to generate transgenic parasites that lack one to three genes, leading to developmental arrest in the liver and allowing the host to launch a protective immune response.

Chicken coccidiosis, caused by the infection of Eimeria species, leads to important economic losses to the poultry industry. Vaccination with attenuated live parasites seems to be the best way to control this disease. Attenuated eimerian parasites with shortened prepatent times show great changes in intracellular development compared to their parent strains but the mechanisms involved in these biological differences are still unclear.

RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful molecular tool for gene discovery and functional validation for candidate vaccine antigens from the vast amount of information available within EST datasets. In this paper we report the knock down in the phenotypic expression of Hemonchus contortus astacin-like MTP gene associated with reproduction and bloodfeeding of this parasite which is predominantly expressed in late larval and adult stages by RNAi interference. The RNAi experiments were conducted utilizing the soaking protocol.

Argulosis, caused predominantly by Argulus siamensis is a threatening ectoparasitic disease of Indian carp aquaculture. Vaccination against this parasite is a safe alternative to the harmful chemicals used for its control. Nitric oxide (NO), a signaling molecule plays an important role in immune mediated functions in different parasitic diseases.

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic infection highly prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, and a significant cause of morbidity; it is a priority for vaccine development. A controlled human infection model for Schistosoma mansoni (CHI-S) with potential to accelerate vaccine development has been developed among naïve volunteers in the Netherlands. Because responses both to infections and candidate vaccines are likely to differ between endemic and non-endemic settings, we propose to establish a CHI-S in Uganda where Schistosoma mansoni is endemic.

Parasitic diseases have unfavorable affect on animal’s health and threaten profitable animal production. These infections also play a greater role in the spread of zoonotic diseases. Parasitic infections cause severe morbidity and mortality in animals especially those affecting the gastrointestinal system and thus affect the economy of livestock owner by decreasing the ability of the farmer. Due to all these reasons proper control of parasitic infection is critically important for sustained animal production.

In this study, 569 fecal samples were screened for parasites egg to know the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infection in this district. In our study, 50% of dung samples were showing negative for helminthitic infection. High prevalence of coccidiosis and followed by Strongyles infection in cattle, goat, poultry and rabbit. The results were indicating that all the livestock owners aware of deworming of livestock and poultry. To achieve 100 per cent deworming, peripheral centre of TANUVAS to create awareness on newer techniques in deworming like FMD vaccination to be followed strictly.

Nematodes are highly pathogenic and economically important parasites in livestock globally. They strongly challenge the host immunity and in return can be ousted by host via prior anthelmintic treatment. However, this approach is sometimes not appropriate when resistance against anthelmintics develops by these parasites. The problem of parasitism can then be managed by alternative methods where vaccines are thought to play a crucial role. Efforts have been made in past to identify candidate vaccine antigens and are still going on for a wide range of nematode parasite species.
