Inflammatory bowel disease involves chronic inflammation and ulceration, primarily Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease is rising in industrialized countries. We describe the case of a patient with inflammatory bowel disease and multiple electrolyte disturbances that emphasize the link between a vitamin D deficiency and electrolyte imbalances.

Hypercalcemia of malignancy, as a paraneoplastic syndrome, is the most common metabolic disorder that accounts for 30% of malignancies and usually has a poor prognosis. Neuroendocrine tumors are uncommon and arise from neuroendocrine cells throughout the body.

Chronic kidney disease has an estimated prevalence of 10% in Australia and is predicted to rise in the coming years. Secondary hyperparathyroidism resulting from chronic kidney disease is an important cause of morbidity in these patients; and screening for secondary hyperparathyroidism is recommended in international guidelines.

Parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) overexpression and poor patient outcome have been reported for many human tumors, but no studies are available in laryngeal cancer. Therefore, we studied the expression of PTHrP and its receptor, parathyroid hormone-related peptide receptor type 1 (PTH1R), in primary locally advanced laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas (LALSCC) also in relation to the clinical outcome of patients.

Vitamin D deficiency and related metabolic bone diseases in pet rabbits have been intermittently debated. In human research, the parathyroid hormone concentration in relation to the 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration is used to determine vitamin D deficiency.

Parathyroidectomy has been proposed as a method for reducing parathyroid hormone levels. We evaluated the efects of ultrasound-guided bilateral superfcial cervical plexus block (BSCPB) on the quality of recovery of uremia patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) following parathyroidectomy.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a polypeptide containing 84 amino acids secreted by cells of the parathyroid glands. Imbalances of parathyroid levels cause medical problems such as osteoporosis, mental disorders, pancreatitis, kidney stones, cancer, and other symptoms. In this study, we aimed to design an ultrasensitive electrochemical immunosensor for PTH detection. Indium tin oxide (ITO) was used as an electrode for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements.

Steroid associated osteonecrosis is difficult to treat. Teriparatide, as the only one bone anabolic drug, has achieved very promising effect in osteoporosis and other bone skeletal diseases. We carried out this animal study to evaluate the effect of subcutaneous injection of teriparatide for the steroid induced femoral head necrosis in a rat model.

For osteoporotic femoral neck fractures, suitable bone-implant stability is critical for pain relief, early return to daily activities and reduction of complications. Teriparatide (parathyroid hormone [PTH1-34]) can improve bone-implant stability in some basic studies.

The age-related osteoporosis is an increasing risk severely threatening the live quality of aged people. Human parathyroid hormone (hPTH) is applied to the therapy of osteoporosis successfully, however, the mechanism, especially the signaling pathway activated in the healing fracture by PTH is still unknown.

Teriparatide (recombinant human parathyroid hormone 1–34) is increasingly used for the treatment of severe osteoporosis because it stimulates bone formation and may potentially enhance fracture healing. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of teriparatide versus a bisphosphonate on radiographic outcomes in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF).

Intermittent parathyroid hormone (PTH) can be used to treat osteoporosis of the spine and hip. However, whether it can be used to treat osteoporosis of the mandible is unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of applying intermittent PTH to ovariectomized rats on the trabecular bone microarchitecture of the mandible and femoral head.

Atypical subtrochanteric fracture and femoral fracture have been considered to be rare complications related to long-term bisphosphonates use. A reduced bone turnover rate may lead to delayed bone healing. Limited data have revealed that teriparatide treatment may reverse the effect of bisphosphonates and be effective in bone healing.

Fractures in older men are not uncommon and need to be healed as soon as possible to avoid related complications. Anti-osteoporotic drugs targeting Wnt/β-catenin and PTH (parathyroid hormone) to promote fracture healing have become an important direction in recent years.
