"Standard Test Method for Evaluating the Microstructure of Graphite in Iron Castings" covers the classification of graphite in cast irons in terms of type, distribution, and size by visual comparison to reference photomicrographs. This test method is intended to be applicable for all iron-carbon alloys containing graphite particles, and may be applied to gray irons, malleable irons, compacted graphite irons, and the ductile (nodular) irons.

Cellulose (SC) isolated from sesame seed (SS) was surface modified with the introduction of an ester functional group via a simple reaction to produce the modified product (SA). SS, SC and SA were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), particle size distribution (PSD), zeta potential and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

The paper "Image processing-based automatic gradation of stone aggregates" aims to employ image processing methods to develop a simple tool for automatic gradation of stone aggregates. The methods of image thresholding, Gaussian filtering, median filtering, morphological closing, and contour analysis are employed. The output of the newly constructed system is the plots demonstrating particle size distribution. These plots can be used for further inspection of aggregate gradation. The system has been developed in Python and with the help of the OpenCV library.

This study also analyzed different scenarios and noticed that the total loss of the distribution decreased by increasing the number of BESS. The result reveals that with the optimum BESS size achieved, it can dramatically improve the stability of the microgrid and simultaneously maintain a high level of economic viability.

The building sector has negatively impacted on environment and people health due to high consumption of energy as well as significant emission of CO2 from material production and large consumption of nonrenewable raw materials. It is therefore necessary to develop new products that not only satisfy the same technical criteria, but also have enhanced qualities in term of the environment, people health and comfort.

Poor induction of mucosal immunity in the intestines by current Salmonella vaccines is a challenge to the poultry industry. We prepared and tested an oral deliverable Salmonella subunit vaccine containing immunogenic outer membrane proteins (OMPs) and flagellin (F) protein loaded and F-protein surface coated chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) (OMPs-F-CS NPs). The OMPs-F-CS NPs had mean particle size distribution of 514 nm, high positive charge and spherical in shape.

Asymmetric-flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) has been recognized as an invaluable tool for the characterisation of particle size, polydispersity, drug loading and stability of nanopharmaceuticals. However, the application of robust and high quality standard operating procedures (SOPs) is critical for accurate measurements.

Median diameters (D50) of suspended particles were inferred in the wet season in the Cam - Nam Trieu estuary (Hai Phong, Vietnam) based on the particle size distribution measured by LISST-100X on five transects along the river from 23 to 26 September 2015. The results showed that floc diameters varied between 3.6 μm to 146.5 μm and averaged 49.14 μm.

Immobilized metal chelate affinity chromatography (IMAC) support was practiced for α-amylase immobilization. Poly(hydroxyethylmethacrylate-methacryloylamidotryptophan)-Ni2+[p(HEMA-MAT)-Ni2+] nanospheres, average diameter 100 nm, were produced by surfactant free emulsion polymerization. Characterizations of p(HEMAMAT)-Ni2+ nanospheres were carried out by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, average particle size, size distribution, and surface charge were specified.

This paper aims to verify the applicability of this method in determining the displacement of sandy soil under different saturation conditions and soil grain sizes. The results showed that this method could effectively determine soil displacement with an accuracy of 0.13 mm. Furthermore, the degree of saturation of soil did not influence the PIV results whereas the homogeneity of soil, as indicated by grain size distribution, reduced the precision of the PIV method.

This study evaluated the effect of different additives such as nanocarbon compounds (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt.%) with different morphologies and gelatin (Gel) (10 wt.%) on the mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite (Hap)- based nanocomposites (NCs). The NCs were prepared using the innovation process “SmartBox” based on the Internet of things (IoT), which provides process control and reproducibility, and they were characterized by X-ray diffraction, particle size distribution, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal analysis.

Adjuvants are substances that increase the immune response to a given antigen. In the development of novel vaccine adjuvants/ systems, saponins are one of the most attractive molecules due to their altered immunomodulatory activities. In this study, we tried to develop PEG (polyethylene glycol)/cholesterol-based lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to deliver the Astragaloside VII (AST-VII) and potentiate adjuvant properties of AST-VII for the influenza vaccine.
