Wet impregnation method for synthesis of phase change composite of N-octadecane in porous silica gel
Thermal energy storage is gaining more interest as people aim to utilization of solar energy. The thermal energy can be stored in the form of latent heat and used for building applications that require increasing energy. This report investigated the wet impregnation method for the synthesis of thermal storage material, namely phase change composite (PCC) for two purposes: to create a simple method for the synthesis of PCC and study behaviors of phase change material (PCM) when confined inside the pore.

Grain boundary strengthening is a method of strengthening materials by changing their average crystalize (grain) size, exhibiting the basic relationship between yield stress and the grain size of the materials. This methodology is based on the observation of grain boundaries that are insurmountable borders for dislocations and the number of dislocations located within a grain.

In international pistol shooting competition the performance improvement needed to be able to move into a medal winning position in a final from fourth position is 1.5 points (Bedford et al., 2012). It may be expected therefore, that by providing a method of reducing tremor resulting in a corresponding performance improvement. This research consists of two studies investigating the physiological response and the shooting performance of elite pistol shooters.

Salt hydrates, classified as inorganic phase change materials, are used in thermal energy storage (TES) systems. Due to their superior properties such as higher thermal conductivity and better thermal energy storage density, non-flammability and availability in wide temperature ranges at a reasonable cost than organic PCMs, salt hydrates are preferable PCMs.

The influence of discharge rate, ambient temperature, and phase change material on the maximum temperature and the highest temperature difference was investigated. The maximum temperature of the battery was tested with and without phase change material under extreme discharge rates (4C and 5C) and ambient temperatures (310 K and 320 K). Results showed that a phase change material reduced the maximum temperature from 327.94 K to 306.45 K for a 14.6 Ah lithium-ion battery discharged at 5C-rate and 320 K.

The structural transformations occurring as a function of increasing temperature in zeolites are of interest because the porous structure, and therefore the physical properties, can significantly change. Zeolites with THO framework type are small-pore materials, which received attention because of their applications in catalytic processes.

This observation indicates: i) The formation of the lamellar grains; ii) The rapid changes in characteristic sizes of the lamellar grains compared with the lamellar stacks; and iii) The newly generated phases consisting of only the graft materials. These findings explain why the lamellar grains and the graft chains play an important role in the higher proton conductivity and compatible tensile strengths of the membranes, compared with Nafion, at the immersed and severe operating conditions.

Oleochemical-based long-chain diesters are potential organic phase change materials convenient for thermal energy storage. The development of efficient and green methods is an important requirement for the preparation of these environmentally friendly compounds, which also are finding wide industrial application. Thus, in the present work, a series of dibasic acid esters were synthesized through ionic liquid catalyzed scalable chemical esterification or transesterification reactions in a solvent-free medium.

The management of end-of-life tires (ELT) waste gains importance in aspect of possible environmental and economic issues so the waste recycling becomes unavoidable. This study describes the fabrication and characterization of a new phase changing material (PCM)/ELT microcomposites that could be used in thermal energy storage. Paraffin together with the 4 fatty acids and ELT rubber powder are used as PCMs and as the supporting material, respectively. Paraffin/ELT composites are fabricated, as well, by the vacuum impregnation method in order to investigate the effect of the preparation method.

This paper presents numerical simulation of solidification around a cooled circular cylinder with the presence of a free surface in a rectangular cavity. The free surface is introduced to account for volume change due to density difference between the solid and liquid phases during solidification. Pure tin with the solid-to-liquid density ratio sl = 1.05 (shrinkage) is investigated as a phase change material.
