The synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical properties of hexyl thiophene substituted thieno[b]-fused BODIPY structure are reported within this work. One such derivative, HTFBod, has been studied, which is one of the rare compounds that has a maximum absorbance wavelength greater than 750 nm among fused BODIPY compounds. In addition, it preserves its significant spectral properties such as high molar absorptivity and fluorescence quantum yield.

Using luminescence to date the burial and exposure ages of rock surfaces has been a revolutionary new geochronological approach developed and refined over the past decade. Rock surface exposure dating is based on the principle that the depth to which the luminescence signal is bleached into a rock surface is dependent on the duration of that rock surface’s exposure to sunlight.

We prepared novel unsymmetrical A3B-type zinc and cobalt phthalocyanines bearing monocarboxylic acid groups on peripheral positions using statistical condensation method, especially designed to anchor on the TiO2 semiconductor surface. The novel complexes were anchored on TiO2 semiconductor to prepare effective dye sensitized photoactive composites as heterogeneous catalysts. The results indicated that modified TiO2 nanocrystals possessed only the anatase phase and MPc-TiO2 photocatalysts with loading amount of dye ca. 8.27 µmol/g TiO2 exhibit strong visible light absorption.

Mictrorons are accelerators of electrons and are simultaneous sources of bremsstrahlung photon flux and fission neutrons. In 1982, a microtron of seventeen trajectories Microtron MT - 17 was put into operation at the National Institute of Physics of Vietnam. Though very modest, microtons are very useful for developing countries such as Vietnam in both fundamental and applied physics research. During the recent years by using the above mentioned MT - 17 and microtrons from other institutes we have carried out different investigations.

Integration of optimal photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) and mycorrhization under in vitro conditions appears to have significant synergistic effect in enhancing the growth and survival of the medicinal orchid, Dendrobium chrysanthum under in vitro and ex vitro conditions. PPFD at 60 µmol m-2 s -1 was found to be optimal for root colonization for mycorrhizal association by fungi (73% colonization). The growth of mycorrhizal plantlets was observed to be superior at 60 µmol m-2 s -1 PPFD as compared to plantlets subjected to either lower or higher PPFD.

The patient dose incurred from diagnostic procedures during advanced radiotherapy has become an important issue. Many researchers in medical physics are using computational simulations to calculate complex parameters in experiments. However, extended computation times make it difficult for personal computers to run the conventional Monte Carlo method to simulate radiological images with high-flux photons such as images produced by computed tomography (CT).

The use of Jatropha (Jatropha curcas L.) as a source of biofuel is documented. The physiological characteristics and growth studies of Jatropha have received less attention. In the present study, we measured leaf gas exchange with an infrared gas analyzer for red (immature) and green (mature) leaves of Jatropha curcas in response to various environmental conditions including photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), vapor pressure difference, and temperature.

Bremsstrahlung energy spectrum from thin W target produced by 15 MeV incident electrons was determined by a combination of measurements and theoretical calculation. The shape of spectrum was calculated by Monte-Carlo method using the code EGS4. The photon flux measurements were performed based on the activation technique using the high pure metallic foils. The radioactivities of the irradiated foils were measured by using a gamma spectrometer with a high energy resolution HPGe detector.
