  • The present study aimed to elucidate relationships between phytoplankton species and stressors using multivariate approaches and assess the environmental condition of Burç Reservoir’s surface water using phytoplankton metrics from September 2018 to August 2019 according to implementations of the Water Framework Directive. Burç Reservoir had a characteristic of a warm monomictic pattern. Phytoplankton functional groups (E, F, J, LO, LM, MP, P, S1, T, and W1) were found in the reservoir. A significant difference was found in total biovolume values changed from 2.

  • Zooplankton holds a key position in the food web as it was directly related to the consumption of organic energy produced by phytoplanktonic photosynthesis and then by transforming it to the higher tropical levels of hetirotropes such as fish. Some zooplankton population disappeared at a specified period and reappeared during other period. This disappearance may be due to the fact that some species occur in spores, under favorable conditions spore germinate and appear as zooplankton.

  • This study was conducted to enhance the understanding of phytoplankton diversity of Duyen Hai town, Tra Vinh province. We selected 12 representative sampling sites and investigated phytoplankton diversity in both dry and rainy seasons. The phytoplankton of this area were comprised of 134 species, belonging to 64 genera, 45 families, 31 orders, 8 classes and 5 divisions. Among those divisions, Bacillariophyta was the most dominant in species, accounting for 70% of the total number of species and Cyanobacteria commonly had high density at 12 surveyed sites.

  • Planktonic diatoms produce resting stages that survive in the sediment and allow species persistence over periods in which vegetative growth does not occur. Sediments from coastal estuary in the Mokpo Harbour, Korea were took and investigated. Diatom germination tests from sediment were carried out in laboratory. Diatom cells were identified by microscope based on standard method.

  • Phytoplankton dynamics plays a vital role in determining the productivity of any coastal ecosystem. In this study, temporal variability in phytoplankton composition and diversity was assessed with respect to the physico-chemical parameters of water in major dol net fishing grounds of two spatially adjacent tidal creeks (Thane and Vasai) of Maharashtra. The phytoplankters identified belonged to 84 and 69 species in Thane and Vasai creeks, respectively.

  • In this study, the detrimental effects of trace metals on the growth of phytoplankton and the phytoremediation potential of microalgae from Vietnam are elucidated. Two green algae Scenedesmus accuminatus var biseratus and Scenedesmus protuberans, along with the diatom species Cyclotella sp., were exposed to chromium (Cr) and cadmium (Cd) at three distinct concentrations ranging from 5-761 µgl-1 and 18-667 µgl-1, respectively, over a period of 14 days.

  • The diversity and abundance of dinoflagellates in the inshore waters off Karwar and Kali estuary was studied for a period of thirteen months (Dec 14 to Dec 15). Thirty two species of dinoflagellates were recorded during the study of which thrifty one species of dinoflagellates were recorded in the inshore waters off Karwar and twenty eight species of dinoflagellates were recorded in Kali estuary which joins the Arabian sea.
