Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a common and heterogeneous malignancy of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx. Surgery and radio(chemo)therapy are the standard treatment options and also have great influence on the composition of the tumor microenvironment and immune cell functions.

The human plasma proteome is important for many biological processes and targets for diagnostics and therapy. It is therefore of great interest to understand the interplay of genetic and environmental factors to determine the specific protein levels in individuals and to gain a deeper insight of the importance of genetic architecture related to the individual variability of plasma levels of proteins during adult life.

DNA originating from degenerate tumour cells can be detected in the circulation in many tumour types, where it can be used as a marker of disease burden as well as to monitor treatment response. Although circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) measurement has prognostic/predictive value in metastatic prostate cancer, its utility in localised disease is unknown.

Ebook "Advances in biology and therapy of multiple myeloma - Volume 1: Basic science" despite the advances in conventional, novel agent and high dose chemotherapy multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable. In order to overcome resistance to current therapies and improve patient outcome, novel biologically-based treatment approaches are being developed. Current translational research in MM focusing on the development of molecularly-based combination therapies has great promise to achieve high frequency and durable responses in the majority of patients.

Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), a prodrug of tenofovir (TFV), is currently used for treatment of chronic hepatitis B as first line recommendation. This study has been performed with the aim of development, validation, and application of LC-MS/MS procedure for quantitation of TAF and TFV in human plasma.

As clinical signs and symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are often nonspecific, it is difficult to detect in the early stage, leading to high risk of relapse or recurrent metastasis. Plasma cell-free DNA of Epstein-Barr virus (cf-EBV DNA) is markedly associated with the development of undifferentiated NPC, and its level prior and subsequent to treatment is reliable for the screening, diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of NPC.

B cell maturation antigen (BCMA) targeted immunotherapies have demonstrated remarkable clinical efficacy in multiple myeloma (MM). Here, we evaluated the BCMA expression in MM and other plasma cell dyscrasias (PCDs), hoping to provide a potential treatment strategy for the relapsed/refractory PCDs besides MM.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has been becoming a novel convenient and noninvasive method for dynamically monitoring landscape of genomic information to guild personalized cancer treatment. In this study we comprehensively evaluated the additional value of plasma ctDNA to routine tissue next generation sequencing (NGS) of therapeutically targetable mutations in lung cancers.

Thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin myelofibrosis/renal insufficiency, and organomegaly (TAFRO) syndrome is treated using corticosteroids and/or immunosuppressive agents as first-line therapy. We report the case of a 69-year-old female with TAFRO syndrome in which the patient presented multiple organ failure and steroid resistance, which was successfully treated using plasma exchange (PE) followed by rituximab.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disease which negatively affects living quality and longevity of patients. Unfortunately, current COPD treatments are not radical. COPD is characterized by persistent neutrophil infiltrations mediated by inflammatory cytokines including interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-8 in the airway.

Nitrogen content in graphene influences application performance. Although many studies have been conducted on single-process nitrogen (N)-doping, dopant content is still quite low. First, graphene oxide (GO) was hydrothermally nitrogen-doped. This nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (NrGO) was then subjected to secondary plasma treatment. Two nitrogen(N)-doping mechanisms were observed depending on graphene's oxygen functionalized.
