The overall aim of this thesis is to add to the literature regarding CPD for professional accountants, especially CPD for the IICPA members by investigating members’ understanding of, and, engagement in CPD, and by investigating the influence of the CPD drivers and CPD outcomes on the members’ engagement to CPD using the theoretical framework constructed in this thesis. The study will provide a detailed examination on the views of the finance officers and council policies on IA and depreciation information for decision-making by internal and external users. This is an important area because the preparers of GPFRs have a significant influence on the information used for both internal and external purposes. Conclusions on the consequences of current practices and recommendations for change will be developed to assist local authorities and enhance information to be included in council policies (for example accrual budgets and rating estimates) and GPFRs.

This thesis comprises an historical examination of the ‘Stay or Go’ policy of bushfire safety in Australia, with a particular focus on the state of Victoria, Australia. The bushfire management strategy practised in Victoria is unusual, in that public safety advice recommends residents take responsibility for deciding their response to a threatening fire. This approach is based on the belief that it is the most effective way to prevent losses.

This research project "Prioritisation in infrastructure asset maintenance" aims to develop a reliable and accurate decision-making method for improving the maintenance prioritisation of irrigation infrastructure. The method should utilise agreed evaluation criteria, based on existing organisational policies and risk frameworks, and real-time data representing the physical condition of assets to prioritise them for maintenance.

This research demonstrates how housing demand can be modelled by using a System Dynamics approach. This modelling concept has been set up, using the root causes which generate housing demand. Causal factors which influence housing demand are collated, and mapped. A model simulating housing demand was developed. Keys to this are demographic, social and economic factors. This model is presented with a view to pursuing new approaches for housing demand modelling.

This research aims to address these research gaps. Through the literature review, the most popular building PV applications in China are identified. Hence, five building PV scenarios are developed based on real-word cases, including BAPV, roof BIPV and window BIPV. Given the diverse geographic conditions and policy conditions in China, 12 typical cities are selected for the research. A MATLAB program is established to calculate energy generation and evaluate the economic performance of the building PV applications in the 12 cities.
